looking at quads/ atvs.
« on: March 13, 2018, 07:06:12 PM »
:) Looking At quads not racers, not tractors, just a quad to ride around. I am 200 lbs. How big do I need?250? 400? I think I want 4X4. I do not want a giant size one, little and easy to ride. My brother has a like 800 cc giant one that is just about the size of a jeep bobtail, with winches and al sorts of stuff. I do NOT want that. smaller and dependable is more important than speed.
Thanks
Carl

I would look at the Honda 420 4x4.  Elect auto or manual shifting.  Reliable, priced decent.  It has a few things some of us don't like but it sounds like you don't want that so its a GREAT choice.  Power steering is worth paying for and so is a winch even if ya don't want it you should have one just in case. :twocents:

I'd go with a 400+ 4X4.  I have a 350 older model 2 wheel Kawasaki and it has served me well, 23 years now. However, I'm  looking at 4X4's now for a new one.

Kawa makes a old school reliable simple 2 or 4 wheel quad also. Brute 400 or something.

Is a 3 wheeler out of the question? My atc hauls me all over the mountains. Lighter and more maneuverable than a quad. No fancy stuff but they are cheap and easy to work on

I am a huge Honda Rancher 420 fan. The 420 is fuel injected, and starts up with ease for me in temps down to -5 deg. I am 6'3'' 300lbs, and the Rancher has an abundance of power. The 4x4 locks in with a well placed lever. I have put just shy of 100 miles of trail riding in on one day and never touched the reserve tank. One down side on the Honda, the seats are pretty stiff...mine is an 07 which I bought new. Not sure if Honda ever softened up the seat in the newer machines. Great ATV!!

:yeah: I wouldn't go any smaller and 4x4 for sure.  You'll love the power steering, it's a must now for me.

I think the op would look really good on the one I'm selling, why have 450-500cc when you can have a 1000cc. Mine is 4x4 and has eps. Also a 2500lb winch up front. Great for just cruising, but if needed will get up to 90+.  :IBCOOL:  I know it's not what he's looking for though. Hopefully he finds a good one..

The older 2003-2005 Polaris Sportman 500 ATP's (all terrain pickup) are awesome.  The little pickup bed is incredibly useful.  Newer models also have the bed but don't recall what the model name is.

3 wheelers are a death trap. Get a new Can am Outlander. It's not the fancy one, it's the entry level one. $5000 for a new 400 ain't bad. I paid $10,000 plus for my 2015 Can am 500 XT new...
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

Found my Big Red ATC250ES for $400 bucks, ready to rock and roll!   Has full racks front to back, electric start, shaft drive, full automatic transmission with reverse gear, and a trailer hitch to boot...What more could you ask for?  :dunno:
