Spring in the Wenaha

Was down there this weekend, I have never seen so much wolf sign and wolves in my life.  Tracks every where, had one wolf at about 80 yards broadside, heard at least two more below me kill something.  Then heard more at night.  Quite a surreal experience.

That is terrible news, I’ve heard from a couple people that guide in the blues that support what you saw.  Between the wolves and another group the elk numbers are crashing very quickly, sad deal.  I’m not sure how much the wolves impact bear populations?

I have a spot dialed in when the snow lifts but need to gets some more ammo loaded for it.  Easy 1050 yard shot but the pack is 11 miles round trip on the trail or 2+ miles straight up and down.  How bad do I want a bear

Nothing new. I have seen wolves in the wenaha and surrounding units for the past 6 years. This last season was the worst by far though. There are a couple good size packs in the area

I’m planning on spend a few nights in the backcountry and haven’t ever backpacked in wolf country....plenty used to the olympics and hanging food bags in trees. Anything special I should consider?

You don’t need to hang food bags in trees for anything other then mice IMO.

ESPECIALLY there.

We have cougars coming out our ears over here.  Way more an issue than bears. In fact I think packrats and skunks are more trouble than bears.  Just keep a,tidy campb and carry a sidearm. Be ready for all weather.  I drive to work in snow and drive home in sun and 60.  Gawd I love it over here.
