2018 Wyoming elk hunt
« on: March 16, 2018, 12:34:56 PM »
I've been applying for a united  elk hunt in Wyoming for 12 years, I had 1 point less than max 11, that kept me from drawing sooner.  So I was very surprised when I finally drew this year!  My hunt started when I drew, and my conditioning started this past Monday.  I'm probably in the worst shape I've ever been in, 48 years old 5'6'' and about 206 lbs! This will not be the case in a few short months!!!  I've always needed some reason to get off my butt and get in mountain shape, in the past as you all well know I could just depend on being young.  And as most of you know, getting older takes away that no need to exercise.  I will be hunting with guys that live in Wyoming and have been hunting 62 for many years, that is a blessing.  We will be horse backing in and setting up a camp, I hope they have an electric fence!!  I hate grizzly bears, especially the ones that have never been hunted, they have no fear!  They expect at least a 320'' bull and have seen a few 350 bulls, I didn't wait 12 years to kill a rag horn so I'm glad we are on the same page. I will miss the adventure of finding a new spot, picking people's brains on past hunts and hunting alone in a new area with great potential.  But with all the bear reports I'm feeling pretty good knowing I'll be with people in the know!  I hope to update with pic's of beautiful country, camp and big bulls.  Good luck to all you guys in this years permit draws, I hope your dream hunt comes true as well.

That will be an amazing hunt! Please keep telling us the story as it unfolds.
There is not enough wilderness left in the world, or in the hearts of men.

Tagging along for the ride. Can’t wait to see how this plays out!
