Virtual Reality - outfitters, guides, business owners
« on: March 15, 2018, 08:08:43 AM »
Hi there -

I'd like to extend an open invitation to any HuntWA outfitter, guide or business owner/sponsor who'd be interested in climbing into an HTC Vive VR experience at my office in DT Seattle - date/time tbd. The invite also includes any conservation group board members (NWTF, RMEF, NRA, DU, etc), DFW biologists, hunter safety instructors or first responders (LEO, fire, ems).

I'll grab some pizza, beer, and snacks. There is no agenda, you can come check it out, grab a slice and take off if you like. My setup is for one person at a time and generally works out to about 4-5 people per hour.

It's *not* a 360-degree experience like Google Cardboard or Samsung Gear VR, but a more immersive experience; hard to fully articulate until you've done it. Virtual/Mixed reality has practical uses but this invite is meant for fun and you'll have it.

HTC Vive - https://www.vive.com/us/
Oculus Rift - https://www.oculus.com/rift/
Google Cardboard - https://vr.google.com/cardboard/
Samsung Gear VR - http://www.samsung.com/global/galaxy/gear-vr/

Questions? If you're interested indicate so in the thread along with your preference of a weekday evening or weekend.

Who's game?

How would this benefit the folks you're inviting?
:fire.:

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

What is it you're advertising?  Like what is the actual VR experience?

Great question; the short answer is, it depends on the business and how the market evolves around it for our industry. It will mostly just be a fun experience like riding a roller coaster at Disneyland for the first time.

Free Pizza and a game night. I'm not advertising anything - or don't intend to.

My company envisions these type of solutions for clients and I'm building a set of solutions too but the invite is simply to invite like-minded folks from HuntWa to experience VR for yourselves. I won't be showing any of my stuff but instead, a handful of demo's that introduce believability and consequence in a strong way.

If you're afraid of heights, you could get freaked out. Even if you're not, you might find yourself in cold sweats and your legs firing off on demo's w/ altitude. I've done a handful of these w/ different organizations over the last 18 months, most regularly with the King County Sheriff training facility near SeaTac. It's been a blast getting to know some of the leo's and how effective VR/AR will be in the future of training.
