Turkey Gun...
« on: March 23, 2018, 09:45:39 AM »
Looking to get a new turkey gun. Better late than never right? Looking at the Winchester SXP, Remington 870 Express, and the Mossberg 500. seems like they can all be had in the $300-400. Any pro's/con's to the above? What length barrel should I be looking for? Looks like the turkey specific models are a 24". About the only thing I think I want it to have is the fiber optic sight and be 12ga. Is a camo stock necessary?

For a turkey gun, 18 inches to your hearts desire as long as you can put quality chokes in it. Turkeys see pretty good (so ive been told) but I have killed plenty with a regular old wood and blue shotgun.  I prefer shorter guns and have used a Mossberg 590 with an 18 inch barrel that I had bored and threaded for chokes for 9 years or so. With 3 inch #4's of my own loads any bird inside of 50 yards is guna be a floppin. Thats just my preference though, my pawpaw used an old 1100 or 1187 with like a 31 inch barrel.
Practical accuracy and a packable rifle.
Blued steel and walnut is always better.

Any of those mentioned will be fine. I fancy the mossberg on that list.
