Comes down to an opinion.  Opinions stated publicly is what divides us as a group.

No one could argue the shot was inhumane. That deer was dead before the exit wound. If there was no unnecessarily wasted meat, as the guy claims, I really don't see a problem with any of this.

This doesn't bother me in TX where it's a whole lot different hunting and management practices than we have in WA, there the deer are closer to a commodity like Angus.

If someone were packing a 50 BMG in a typical WA pumpkin patch, I'd be heading to a new area, a long ways away. Knowing your target (and whats behind it) takes on more meaning with a 50BMG.

and my little ethics rant:
It's also glorifying the idea of gore and red mist which I don't support for a food species of big game, save that for non-food species and vermin.
I have to think that someone packing a 50 BMG maybe has some desire to see huge holes in flesh, which to me is just as bad as killing a deer and peeling off the back straps and leaving the rest to rot..wastage, but then any super magnum is capable of making big holes in flesh, depending on bullet choices could make even bigger holes than a typical 50BMG load,  so it comes to ethics.

A person can be ethical (or not) with any gun large or small, this video is an example of how a person can be ethical with a 50 BMG while managing does on a TX whitetail property.

Neck shot through soft tissue (probably a sturdy, aerodynamic bullet), of course little damage.  When he hits a shoulder or ham, I think it will be a different story.

Too small of a bullet for deer, but with the right shot placement I guess it would be okay.  I would not use a 50 on anything larger than a grouse.   :IBCOOL:

seen a video once a doe was shot in head with one, looked like a watermelon popping. Zero waste...
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Big difference between hunting and shooting probably not practical for hunting deer but no doubt will do the job if your just talking shooting deer

I think there is more to this story... I think he later said there was no bullet hole ANYWHERE on deer, thinks the bullet traveling past head sucked the eyeballs out of the head?

Lot of clickbait in that link eh?

The guy is full of BS, he won't show you the other side of the does head.  It's not going to vacuum it's eye's out and kill it instantly.

I don't know the math on this, but I would suspect that a shockwave strong enough to suck out a deer's eyeball would be enough to break the poor thing's brain. I also doubt that if the bullet did go into the deer's head, there would be much left of it.

I shot a whitetail doe between the eyes once with my 300 win mag.  There was a lot more damage than the deer he shot (or didn't shoot?).  The eyeballs both popped out and the brain was liquified into white goo that ran out.  It was a mess.
