Hey I use Avery camo check out the new marsh grass or buckbrush! its great stuff if you dont like that you can try a company here in washington called "m2d" camo....i have never used it but it looks amazing. i havent used it because i have all my camo already...and as far as a camo gun...for ducks not needed but if your going to hunt geese with a ground blind that you cant put your gun it " avery power hunter" your going to want a camo gun...let me know if you have any other waterfowl hunting questions i love to help out a fellow hunter!!

Thanks Riley, I saw a commercial for these guys on the tv and forgot what the brand was. Kept trying to watch and see the commercial again but it hasn't come on. The M2D camo looked like it could blend into any surroundings. Might have to buy some for next season.

I wear Advantage Wetlands coat from Cabelas and a Mossy Oak (don't know which one) on my waders and have had good luck.  I think my gun was causing me trouble this year, though- it's pretty and shiny, I think the ducks and geese are seeing it.  I'm in the market for a Benelli, also.

As previously said, its not as much about the camo pattern as much as it is about movement. Think about when we were kids wearing old army camo...still killed ducks.  Ya maybe ....But Ducks as a species and a whole have evolved...... so the better you can hide with more realistic camo patterns the more luck you should have!!

It really depends on where you're hunting.  My two favorites are Max-4 and NatGear.  Old Shadow Grass was nice, too, for marshes.

Really? I would argue that it is important to take the shine off a gun just like you should with your face or anything else with a sheen to it. Camo gun wrap or finish usually does this.

I like to dress up as a huge red shotgun shell.   They never expect a hunter to be dressed like that and they always wonder what the heck it is.   I used the logic that they can't necessarily tell size as evident by the magnum goose decoys that are the size of herefords.  I figure I look just like another discarded shotshell that some idiot didn't police up.   :)

I hunted for decades in ODs then woodland Army surplus fatigue tops with brown (and muddy) waders with a well worn Model 12...then I got an 870 Express....still fatigues. I did JUST fine.

Now my waders have Max4 (i think) and the jacket is some sort of marshlandy camo...Still have the 870 Express...I still kill ducks.

(Yeah I know Goldeneye...when I can HIT them....changing loads in mid day REALLY screws you up)

Bone, I hear ya'!

I actually considered trolling around the pond in circles with some fishing gear, or standing my kids on the bank tossing bread into the water calling "here ducky ducky ducky..." Maybe this fall...

I have used M2D now for a year and love it. The owner the company Sparky is a stand up guy too. It is a small, but growing fast business. He now has some new fleece out to. I already ordered some before it was even available. There was a great article in Predator Xtreme magazine about M2D camo and how it stacked up against others in the eyes of a coyote. http://www.predatorxtreme-digital.com/predatorx/20090102/
As far as painting your gun camo not sure if it is necessary but I painted mine myself it is a hookie job but it gives the old Mossberg some character.

Give a look at the M2D Camo website. http://www.m2dcamo.com/ They have some pretty persuasive pictures comparing different patterns.  Charles Shawley has written about this stuff in Predator Xtreme magazine (accessible on-line).  http://www.predatorxtreme.com/

If you hunt around salt the camo ones don't rust.

Other than that I really don't think camo color on a shotgun really matters but I do have a SBE II in Max-4 HD. Looks cool. Don't think the ducks care.
