Retriever Puppy Training
« on: April 05, 2018, 12:00:59 PM »
I am documenting most of this pups training from day one forward in the hopes that it is informative and help others.

There are 90 videos now available for free on Vimeo.  I try to post 2-3 new ones daily largely unedited and now a weekly highlights recap. Hopefully, some may find it useful.

I would appreciate criticisms and feedback in the hopes of improving the content to make it's as useful and viewer friendly as possible.  Thank you and for your consideration,

I'm so glad you're doing this!

I mentioned this to my labs trainer 2 years ago but no such luck. I even offered to film/edit but he was worried about online backlash of pressure training.

Keep it up!

Nice puppy Gary.

This is so great. I've been watching your 101 videos and bookmarking each one in a bookmark folder I'm calling "Bird Dog Puppy Training"

My family and I are in line for our first bird dog (a WPG) and I'm just looking for any kind of training videos possible to learn step-by-step.

People like me are looking for great tips, hints, suggestions for a wide variety of topics like:
  - when to train and how often each day
   - what types of products to use
   - how to train pups to socialize
   - how to train kenneling up
   - etc.

Have you ever trained or know of someone who's trained a WPG? I'd love a thorough video series on that!

Right on about getting your WPG.

I have trained a number and some good ones but had some that were soft and not had much bird drive.  So I can suggest you look at pedigree and temperament carefully.  I have had much better luck in the quality of dogs I have got that were a very similar breed German Wire Hair Pointers.

I am working on making some more specific compilation video for the topics which you suggest, they are spot on and good training concerns and important issues.

A lot of what I train with the retrievers is the same as for pointers except more live bird and contacts.  I think I am getting a Springer in soon and hope to document its training as well.

This past week highlights training recap;

There are now 141 sequential puppy training videos available.  I have some new ideas for production and topic-specific videos.

Comments, suggestions, and criticism are all welcome.

Thank you, for your consideration;

Your vidoes are awesome! Thanks for posting this. I would love to see some videos about to to get the most out of 15-20 minutes of training. I don't have a lot of time during the week so that's about the best I can do after work. Also, love the name. My pups name is Jaxson too.

Thank you so much.

Most all the substantive or critical work with any puppy or dog is accomplished in less than twenty minutes a day.  Its a good topic and I will make a point to make a video highlighting that with some ideas.

Go Jaxson's!

Its been more than a month since I posted a video highlight update.  Young Jaxson is now almost six months old and progressing as well as I can hope for.

There are now 196 sequential videos available documenting some of his training starting back at day one when he was eight weeks old.

Comments, criticism, and questions are welcome and thank you for your consideration.

It's been 3 weeks now since my Wirehaired Pointing Griffon joined the family. I've watched a number of your Jaxon videos and have applied the same techniques to training Chester. He's doing GREAT. He's got good bird/prey drive and loves to work on conditioning. We spend a maximum of 2-3 minutes at a time working on little things. I'm pretty impressed.

Thanks for making these videos!
