Any local dealers sell KROIL? (bothell/lynwood)
« on: April 09, 2018, 10:12:37 AM »
Had my best shooting day at the range yesterday, shooting lights out at 100 yards with my Knight Ultralite. Couldnt be happier...

Then I get home to find the Breech Plug is stuck....bad. Ive done the research but cant find KROIL locally (bothell/lynwood)

I really want to get this thing out ASAP. I love this gun and im scared to death ive F'd it up.

Breech plug was well greased, thinking im gonna switch to Tef Tape.

Any help appreciated

The deer are exactly where you find them, and no where you dont!

Tacoma Screw Products carries it. I think there's one in Kirkland.

You really do not need Kroil to get it in most cases...

Take the barreled action out of the stock.  Remove the trigger and the bolt.

Then stand the rifle receiver down in a container that is deep enough to get the water level above the breech plug.

Boil a big pot of water and pore that into the bucket.  I also boil a small amount of water in a tea kettle and pour it slowly down the bore.

Let it sit in the hot water 10-15 minutes.

Then remove it and while really hot try to turn the BP out - you might need to try to turn is in a little bit first then out.  I hope you are using a 1/4" drive 7/16" deep socket and ratchet to get the plug out.

Most often I have been able to get them out by putting the barreled action back in the stock - tighten the recoil lug screw snuggly and use the ratchet setup to get it out.

If you can not get it out you may have to repeat the heating process but install the barreled action in a vice, Use the rear portion of the recoil lug in a vice to turn the plug out.

Also, I would suggest to you when you are doing a range trip - pull the bolt and crack the BP back a bit every 7-10 shots then re-snug and continue shooting. Even if you tape the BP - it will take a few times to get the hang of taping...

Here are a few pics that might help.

Thanks Sabot.

Yes I am using the socket kit you are referencing.

Gonna try the hot water this afternoon.

Thanks for the input.

Sabot Loader!

The hot water worked like a charm. Thank you so much for the great advice as usual.

I am definitely going to use the teflon tape. Do you suggest using air or some specific tool to clean the breech plug threads within the barrel? I want to make sure this thing is clean as a whistle before I put the plug back in.

It is really important that the BP threads be clean and the threads in the barrel. Carbon in there could snag the tape on the BP. This is what I use to get the inside threads clean

Make sure that you hand drill the flash channel in the BP also

I use a home made tool I call a bit on a stick... 5/32" bit

Might want to get this little tool for the BP

Forgot to add... I use the Brirchwood-Casey 2-in-1 bore cleaner on the bore brush to get the carbon and crap out of the bore threads.

Another high quality MILSPEC that I use is Slip 2000 Gun Oil...

One of the important things is - it is all synthecic oil so it will not sludge up the bore if you are shooting real BP or any of the subs other than BH.

Another of its better qualities - it does not attract dust, dirt or grime like a petroleum product.

It is kind of expensive but a little bit goes a very long ways...
