I have this old gun-J.C. Whitney/Sears, Marlin 80, mag question.

I am working on a friends .22 bolt action rifle. It is stamped as a JC Whitney for Sears rifle. These were made by Marlin, Model 80. No magazine for it. I ordered a discontinued Model 80 mag. It almost works. There is no mag release on these rifles, it appears the release is built on to the mag, a latch on one end. Any of you have any experience with these old rifles? She also had two Mossberg .22's. Cool old models, got both of those working well. Put a peep sight on one, an old school Bushnell scope on the other.
