I just had to buy a new truck because my old pickup finally crapped out.  It was irritating that damn near every newer (new or used) truck had the short box.  If you want the standard 6.5 foot box, which I did, it really narrows your options.  It's almost like truck owners don't actually use the truck as truck.

Well....they don't.

Would that 3.5 tow my 21.5 foot boat over the pass ok? I’m in the market for a truck. Just so expensive.

My old half ton Chevy with the 5.3 would tow my 21’ boat over the pass.
The 3.5 ecoboost F150, properly equipped, is rated to tow over 13k pounds.

Tow rating is generally how much weight a vehicle can carry and safely stop not actually pull. We put a goose neck flatbed on the back of my buddies 7.3 f350 and loaded it with 12x12 24ft beams. Don't remember how many but it was a lot. We were taking them from up in Ashford down to Puyallup. Pulled them just fine but had some butt puckering stopping situations coming out of the foothills. Went across the scales in Graham at a total weight of over 28k. That was to much.

I have the 2014 3.5 ecoboost  recently did a 2700 mile road trip. Nudged the 17 MPG mark. A little dissapointing. But I cannot complain about the power and towing abilities. Like most that buy this rig it is a primary daily driver. And usually I'm averaging 15-16 all around.

I'd buy another one for sure!!!

I have this motor in our Explorer and it seems pretty decent, has good power, but like just about every vehicle I've ever owned, it does really good on MPG as long as you drive just barely the speed limit or under.  Just broke 3000 miles with it last weekend on a road trip up to Skagit traffic was flowing pretty good so I was usually 7-10+ over the limit and the mileage was down around that same 17 MPG which probably isn't to bad considering.  I think it's around 22 if I drive right at the speed limit but ugh it feels like your standing still.

I just got rid of a 03 6.0 liter with 250,000 on it that was doing nothing but cost me money to keep it on the road.  I did a lot of research and ended up with a 2014 3.5 with 22000 on it.  I tow a 26 ft trailer that is 6600 dry, and all I carry in it is gear and food.  Guessing roughly 7500 total.  I was a little nervous even after reading the towing reviews.  First trip to the beach, was driven via Longview and up the Rainier hill.  Those that know said hill, realize that coming from Longview you will be going 20/25 tops around the corner and into the hill.  I had zero issues hitting 60 and the truck didn't seem to mind much.  I even got 1.5 mpg better towing the trailer than I did with the diesel.  Quieter, better mileage, smoother ride, etc. etc.  I would not go back to the 6.0 for nothing. Or any diesel for that matter.

Well, some actually like the extra passanger space in the shorter beds and are smart enough to buy a small utility trailer when they have to haul bigger loads.  Majority of the time the shorter bed suffices and allows me to seat 4-5 large adults comfortably and if I need more cargo space I simply hook onto my 5x10 utility trailer which tows very easily behind the truck. Hard to put passangers in the utility trailer and much more economical than having to take two vehicles.

I ended up buying a 4 door with the standard bed.  Not many of those to choose from.  For me, I use the bed fairly often and the 5.5 wasn’t going to cut it.

What happened to the 8' standard bed?

They're out there, just not "standard" anymore  :chuckle:

Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Ford does not build a SuperCrew with an 8'.
My 'Crew with a 6.5 is just about unmanageable as it is.
I swear the SuperDuty trucks turn better.
