Slick bag?

I was looking at getting the kifaru slick bag for elk hunting in sept and scouting trips over the summer. Anyone have it? Likes dislikes? I can’t decide between the 0 or 20 degree bag most likely the 20 since I run hot anyways...

I had one A 20 degree a couple of years ago. I typ. Sleep warm. I froze my butt off,plus it was very restrictive . I never used it below 25 always uncomfortable.Went back to down and been happy since

Thanks for the feed back. Maybe I’ll go another route. Might have to look into a quilt or maybe a western mountaineering badger?

Kifaru has been sitting on a 20 degree quilt/woobie design for 6 months or so. I hope they have it out by July.

I have no experience with the slick bag but kifaru makes so many wideths, lengths etc. that if you want that design an center zip I’m sure it will fit. If you are hard on your gear it’s probably an excellent option.   

The price is what gets me from pulling the trigger and trying it out. I’m not hard enough on my sleeping bag to justify it

I own a slick bag.  I would not buy another one.  Own a woobie and a doobie.  Love them both!

Go with a quilt or WM down bag.

Those slick bags are HUGE when packed up, not to mention about 2x as heavy as treated down...

What’s the advantage of a quilt vs a bag? I’m open to get either one and was just curious on the advantages of a quilt

I too was looking at the slick bag. I read some reviews that said their temp rating was off about 20 degrees. Also the slick bags are heavier. In the end I ended up with the convert from Enlightened Equipment 10* 850 down bag that weights only 32oz for a reg/wide. About the same price but half the weight.

What’s the advantage of a quilt vs a bag? I’m open to get either one and was just curious on the advantages of a quilt

1) weight: my 0° EE quilt (long/wide) weighs 31 ounces

2) more flexible: I use the same quilt all summer long, mostly in blanket mode. I have slept with it down into the teens with zero issue.

3) cost: quilts are like half as expensive as a comparable down bag.

4) efficiency: down bags don't keep your back warm because you compress the fill when you lay on it. You're essentially paying for something you can't take full advantage of. A quilt on the other hand has no insulation on the back. Just batten it down around your insulated sleeping pad (high R value...like 5+ for winter camping) and you're toasty warm.

Only time I'd ever consider a bag over a quilt was if I knew the *censored* was going to hit the fan. Subzero temps, snowing sideways, etc...then a bag is nice to completely disappear into, head and all.

If you are between the 0 and the 20, look at the Nemo sonic 0. It gas vent gills that turn it from a 0 to approximately a 20. I love mine. Very spacious with stretch leg area. I've got a late Idaho hunt in the works that should be around 0 degree weather so I'm thinking about selling my Sonic zero to get the new sonic -20 which will have the gills to make it a 0 degree bag just for a bit more security on that hunt in particular.

My buddy loves his slick bag. He is the kind of guy that runs wool instead of down and a 12 lb frame pack instead of the new ultralight stuff so he isn't the type to complain about more weight. He has been warm while guys next to him were shivering.
