Anyone prepare deer rawhide?
« on: April 19, 2018, 11:05:58 PM »
I have a neighbor who makes drums and wanted to make her own rawhide. She tried last year but couldn't get it done.

She is willing to pay someone to prep a hide or two that she has. Anyone interested? Or know someone that does this?

Most taxidermists can send it off and have it done for a small fee.

I have several hundred deer hides. Some hair-on and hair off rawhides. Or she can send her hides to me and I will, flesh, scrape and frame.

I tried to do it at home once and ended up getting ANTHRAX. No more for me.

Doug, what are your prices to tan a hide, hair-on?  I was planning on keeping a deer hide next year to put on the wall of my kid's room but am not particularly interested in doing it myself.

A full deer hide is $175. This includes washing, fleshing, framing and stitching holes (if not too much hide is missing), tanning and shipping to and from the tannery. I only do soft garment (dressing type) tans and not taxidermy.
