Laryngeal Paralysis
« on: April 30, 2018, 06:19:48 PM »
Anybody have any experience with their dog having this condition? Basically, the nerves in the larynx stop functioning properly which can cause the larynx to close off and potentially suffocate the dog. It's common in older large breeds especially labs. My brothers 13.5 year old lab that is pretty damn healthy otherwise almost died last Thursday night when she couldn't breath from this. Only real treatment is a surgery performed by a specialist that costs about $2,000. Any reccomendations for vets that might do this surgery that might be a little less expensive?

I see you’re in Lynwood,  have you gone to VCA Seattle on 44th  ave West in Lynwood. I’d see what they charge, this stuff is pricey, but there’s no place better.

Another vote for that VCA Lynwood location.   They operated on my GSP 5 years ago.   Very good facility.

I have had experience with this disease, it was very devastating. It also affects the nerve that runs to the hind legs. That was the desiding factor when opted out of the surgery. Went to a very good vet hospital in Tacoma. Forget name but they were very impressive. They were not cheap but well worth it. The paralysis in the rear legs could not be overcome. MSU has done a lot of studies. Try looking them up. I wish the best it is a hard road.

at almost 14 years old surgery of any kind is dangerous. that is a good run for a good ole dog
