Used vehicle warranty question

I am hoping to buy a newer truck soon. I don’t want to get a warranty from the dealership. So what is a good place to get a warranty for a used truck?

We bought through United Car Care on our 08’ F150.it is a 3 yr/32k mile warranty top to bottom coverage. Been happy with them so far almost 2 yrs in and 20k put on. The AC compressor and system got replaced in the first 6 months, there was a little back and forth with the warranty assessor but they covered it , took 8 days from problem to fixed. And that alone cost 75% of our principle amount. Deductible is 100$.

$3,200.00 it cost. $50/month. FWIW we didn’t do much shopping for a warranty so I’m not sure how that compares but I know what most major vehicle parts/repair cost and it made sense to me. I was very skeptical at first but after dealing with them for the AC, my worries stopped. Haven’t had to use them again but, it’s nice knowing it’s there.... I believe it also comes with AAA type assistance as well....

Why don't you want to purchase the extended warranty from the dealership? If it's a reputable dealership their warranty will be quality. Don't buy anything but the most expensive one and negotiate from there. The mark-up is going to be double most likely so whatever it is divided by to add a couple hundred bucks and call it good.

Ask to see their extended warranty coverages and costs before pulling the tigger on a purchase.  See it I writing then negotiate.

I second that it depends on the dealership.
When we bought our used Subaru from the dealership. I got a 7 year 100,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty for $2,400.
That gives me peace of mind knowing the coverage is there.

As for the OP. I never bought a warranty that's wasn't from a dealership. Sorry can't help

Yep, price is negotiable at the dealership.  Tell them if you like the coverage pkg, but you don't want to pay that much.  99% of the time they'll give it to you cheaper.

IMOP they are worthless scams.  Never would buy one, especially with a custom/not stock auto like big tires, lifts, etc etc.

With a custom, not stock vehicle it would be absolutely pointless to buy one because nothing would be covered. It would seem like a scam because most don’t read what they’re buying and just assume they cover everything. Surprise!! Know what you’re buying and it’s pretty much not a scam.

Make sure you know what you’re buying. 99.9% of the time people think they’re getting worked over or screwed by an extended warranty, it’s because they didn’t read what they were buying. They let some F&I guy “tell them” what they were buying. They’re the scam.

If you’re buying a newer truck from a dealership(a real dealership, not a small corner lot used car dealership) it would be silly to not buy the warranty from them. For example, if you’re buying a Chevy truck from a GM dealer, buy a GMPP service contract. Every manufacturer has a service contract they sell. They’re the best. Always. Don’t screw around with some fly by night aftermarket service contract you found on the internet. I deal with these things day in and day out every single work day of my life.  I know how they work inside and out. Not trying to sound arrogant. It’s just what I do.

Been doing this for 26 years and a service director for the last 4 yrs. Jackelope is exactly right. Bumper to Bumper warranties do no exist except for new car warranty. There are good service contracts out there and there are horrible ones. Makes sure you know what your buying and negotiate and you will be good.
