2018 2.7L Ecoboost

I’ve got about 800 miles on it so far and I’m averaging 19 MPG – that’s mostly around town and towing light loads.  I’ve towed 2 snowmobiles over the pass and it was like the trailer wasn’t even there.  Pulled my Arima up the hill from the Mukilteo boat launch (with the parking brake on  :-[) without breaking a sweat.

As to fuel consumption it seems to have two modes; Eco and Boost.  I got 34 MPG from Easton to Issaquah.  But the other way with a trailer was more like 14 MPG.  Keep the turbos down and it does great, kick them in not so much.

I haven’t gotten used to that TINGGG sound when something hits the underside of the aluminum.  Somehow that just doesn’t sound right.  Other than that and the push button parking brake, I like it.

Bought a new 2016 F-150 with the 2.7 ecoboost engine and so far its been a great truck. I only use mine going over the pass hunting, fishing and camping so no stop and go miles. I'm averaging about 21.4 mpg going up to the Okanogon and over 22.5 on an antelope trip to WY while driving 80 mph on I 90. My old 1997 F-150 with the small  V-6 and a 5 speed manual barely got 17 on the HWY.  Way more power and comfort in this truck. I only have 17,000 miles on it, so time will tell.

The 5.0 has been around for a long time and has the good ole v8 sound.

I had a 5.0L (302) in my 1st truck, a 1970 F100.  That was a good engine.

I have a 2015 F150 with the 302 in it.  I talked to a lot of guys who have the Ecoboost.  Some love it, some don't. In the end decided to go with the 302.  I had a '66 Mustang when I was in high school that I dropped a 302 into, had 4 buddies that all had old Broncos with it, dad had a '79 pickup with one...
It's got all the power you'll need.
The Eco Boost will save you on gas BUT ONLY on long, highway trips.  I have a buddy that has one and does a lot of road travel with it for his job.  Says it saves him gas on trips, but doesn't save anything over the V8 in stop-and-go driving in town or tooling around in the mountains.   :twocents:

3.5 Eco, hands down.  Spend $400 on a SCT tuner and have it tuned.  Thank me later.  Those motors are strong stock( at least as strong or stronger than the 5.0, they are beastmode when tuned.  The way they are setup they have power right off idle none of that old school turbo lag bs, pulls like a train right from go.

Josh, is it available with a diesel?

Not yet.
You can order one?

Could be I guess... I try to avoid the sales side of things here. I haven't seen one in person.

Really?  Why would you not want to drive a 5.0?  If you buy a v6, you should also get a plaque to hang your balls on.

I have the 6.2L in my 2012😉
And your balls.

I'd sure like to see Ford offer a 5.0 EcoBoost in the F150's.

We bought a new Explorer Platinum with the 3.5 Ecoboost about six months ago.  Doesn't really get driven a whole lot, it currently only has 2100 miles on it, but from the little I have driven it the power is pretty good and is very smooth and linear.  My daily driver is a 2013 Tacoma 4.0L that I put a TRD Supercharger on.  The power is very different feeling in it compared to the 3.5 EcoBoost.  I keep telling my wife I'd like to take them both out and do a little drag race test but she thinks her Explorer will blow my doors off and I'm not worth her time.  Whatever!

Ive got a 15' with the 3.5L EcoBoost. Absolutely love the truck, zero complaints. I've put about 15k miles on it since I bought it, towed my sled a handful of times, as well as a heavier trailer with 3 4x4 ATV's and had zero issues with any of them, granted they weren't heavy loads. Fuel efficiency wise, I've averaged 18MPG since I got it, this has mainly been the commute to work mixed with some mountain roads, towing, easy driving, and playing with the turbos  :chuckle: . On a trip from Granite Falls to Mt. Vernon I averaged 22MPG last week. Like was said earlier, keep the turbos calm and fuel mileage shines, spool them up and it goes out the window.

What? But but but a 5.0 is a 5.0 isn’t it. Exactly the same today as they were in the 80s!?  :chuckle:

Not to Jack this thread but Jackelopes post showing the Horse power etc. on these motor made me look at some other companies and the ratings they publish.  I do not believe any of them, I think the HP ratings are pumped up by every one of them.
