Anybody hunt fool birds on JBLM? If so any luck?
Practical accuracy and a packable rifle.

wow...this thread brings back a lot of memories for me...we used to hunt wild pigeons up copper creek road outside of ashford at first light then head home to Yelm and hit the army rez and kill some grouse on the way back home.  always came home with meat... i remember one morning we were posted up on a ridge and shot some pigeons and our buddy Peppy went down the ridge to pick them up..whole lot of screaming later as he jumped a bear and we watched it tear a$$ down the ridge to parts unknown...trying not to jack the thread but we always were able to shoot a limit of grouse on the army rez back in the day

Yep a lot of memories, hunted around Mock City and Oxbow Lake with good luck in 1974/75. Don't tell anybody but I used a .22 conversion in my M-16 to pop them when in the field and not actively hunting, better than C-Rats ;)

I don't specifically hunt grouse...they are opportunity meals for me.  I've come across them in every TA I've been in.
If you are lucky, you might come across a stray Pheasant. They get flushed out of the prairie and wind up in the woods :bash:

Plenty of grouse, have taken my share walking and driving the roads in most all the TA.
