You have to beware the Hunt Wa people and moderators are fast to drag you into an argument. Sorry this thread has drug on this long for you when you were just trying to get your possessions back.
The only man who never makes a mistake, is the man who never does anything!!
The further one goes into the wilderness, the greater the attraction of its lonely freedom.

You got great footage from it. Take the footage and be happy.

Did that.  Posted it on a separate thread for everyone to enjoy, and linked it here as well.  And if getting this kind of footage means giving up a $25 cable, you bet I'll keep doing it every winter without a second thought.  If this goes nowhere, it was $25 well-spent.

But none of that implies I shouldn't try to get my $25 back.

You just answered your own question. Move on. It’s $25. You learned something from this (DONT USE A STUMP NEXT TIME) plus you have awesome footage.

I would suggest that if you do end up meeting this couple, you would have a better chance of recovering your property if you refrain from labeling them as thieves.  :twocents:

The only question I asked was if anyone knew them.

I'm confused a bit here? You mentioned you would like a LEO to pay them a visit... For what exactly? Assuming this is on public land, they found and removed garbage from public land. I'm not seeing any sort of violation of any laws here aside from you littering on public land. I understand your goal of placing the trail cam and carcass there but you had to know what you were doing came with certain risks. While I understand that you may be upset that your cable was removed I really don't see any way of justifying it. I'm very curios what an LEO report would look like here that wouldn't implicate you...
Unattended items are not garbage. It is not illegal, to the best of my knowledge anyway, for a private citizen to place a camera, use bait to lure critters into the frame, and secure that bait with a cable on public land.

Everyone here, I assume, would agree that they were thieves if they had taken the camera.  And no one would argue "yeah they took your stuff but they left your SD card so just shut up and be happy with your cool footage."  From my perspective, they took a part of my setup.  Which part they took, and the relative cost of that part, and their intentions in doing so are immaterial to the determination of wrong-doing.

The stuff about a LEO knocking on their door is just to shock them into realizing what they did was wrong.  If that never happens and I get the cable back with a lecture from them on why I shouldn't leave trash in the woods, whatever.  I know I may never get an apology from them, but I like to go for gold so...
You beat me to it, but i will it anyways. If they would have taken the trail camera and left the cable everyone on here would be calling them no-good POS and thieves. But since they took a cable that was clearly placed there for a REASON some think they arent thieves. To me it is no differet than taking a camera or a treestand.

I have found many things in the woods. Stuff i have found that appears to be placed there for a REASON i leave alone. But say the cable was on the ground half covered in pine needles and all rusty than i would assume its been abandoned and its trash.  But this clearly isnt the case.

Not sure if Skyval is insinuating that I’m trying to drag you into an argument.  I hope not.   As I mentioned I can’t see your set up or the people.  I’m just offering that that if I found a skeleton tied to a tree, I’d probably remove it and would remove the cable as trash. Especially if there was any chance of it causing damage down the road.    I’ve found some pretty weird things in the woods and tend to lean heavy to no trace.   Just offering a side of the possible story.   If I had noticed the camera, things would have clicked and I’d have left it alone.

I don't think you're trying to drag anyone into arguing.  FWIW, I've had overall great experiences with the mods here.  I misunderstood what h20 was saying earlier, but we talked over PM and we're all good.  I appreciate the job y'all are doing.

There's certainly some grey area between something that is obviously intentional and something that is obviously trash.  I'm curious to know your thoughts once you've had a chance to watch the video.
