A clean, affluent looking couple in their late 60's stealing a few dollars worth of cable? Seems very strange. I'd guess they didn't know it was attached to a camera and thought they were helping clear litter.

I had the same thought about them thinking they were cleaning litter.  Honestly, from the way they reacted when they arrived, I think they thought I tied a live elk to the tree to die.
