Anyone have a air fryer?
« on: May 07, 2018, 08:17:44 PM »
Looking at air fryers as I believe it’s the last appliance on earth we don’t own. Wondering if anyone here has one and what they think of it.   Been looking at the big boy on amazon.  Seems like every air fryer has some excellent reviews with a few “ started a fire in my kitchen” reviews   Anywho, any advice appriciated

Got one from walmart. Use for tots, wings, fries, onion rings. Better than oven and 1/2 the time.  No complaints yet.

We have a T-Fal Actcifry  It is outstanding.  You need no grease or very little to cook anything.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

How does breaded seafood turn out in these things ? Or can you even cook it in one ?

That’s what I’m wondering before I pull the trigger.  The only thing we deep fry and not bake is seafood, so if it’s not good I won’t waste my money.

Update! Wife bought a farber ware oil-less air fryer on Black Friday    After seasoning I tried it with great expectations.  Threw some elk steaks in and hit the steak button    Sat there smugly for 15 minutes    Possibly the toughest steaks I’ve ever had.  I’ve never eaten a tire but I suspect it would be a simpler experience     Ate them out of pure spite     Also the door hinge cracked the third time it was ever opened     Returning tomorrow

ive done pre breaded frozen fish (read, fish sticks) in my air fryer, they turn out better then the oven, but not like frying in oil.
I do love mine for side dishes, fries, tots etc. mine was a gift, if I had to replace it now, I would buy the biggest one I could. mine is on the small side. If I try to cook enough fries for 4 people, it takes 2 runs in the fryer to get them all done.

That is quite possibly the last thing id use one for, they are meant to be a replacement for needing grease oil frying oil. and yes id still eat them too lol

Picked up a Krups a few weeks back at Fred Meyer.  Pretty happy with it.  Does good fries and quite possibly the best baked potato I have had.  More like twice baked potato with a crunchy skin.  Good to coat raw potatoes in olive oil first to help crisp them.  I used it to reheat a smoked pork loin - that went well too.  Good with cheese sticks.  Looking forward to trying a pizza!

Wasn’t planning on the steaks but it had the steak button so figured I’d try.  Won’t do that again

Bought one at Costco a month or so ago- 50 dollars- worth a try!
Really like it for vegetables- especially potatoes- mmm breakfast fries! Super for spaghetti squash as well- not watery or mushy.
I'd say it's nice to have, but not an absolute necessity.

I keep looking at these , but im still skeptical . Back to my original question and more specificity . Has anyone tried cooking say fresh Panko breaded razor clams in the air fryer ?

If the wings work I might be sold anyway . :chuckle:

I wrapped up oreos in pie crust, brushed them with oil, rolled them in sugar and cooked them at 400 degrees for 4 min, flipped them and did another 4 min.

They were like little oreo pies...
