I didn’t want to give up the opportunity of getting a Salmon tag for a chance at getting a Sawtooth tag. Next year I’m hoping to draw one once it becomes a controlled hunt though.

Do you know where your going to hunt yet?

Just figured out this morning that I actually got the tag! :chuckle:

The system was locked up when my "order" was processing and I never got a confirmation or anything before it kicked me off...then I noticed a payment to IDFG today! I'm in Jack!!

Hopefully the system wasn’t severely screwed up and you didn’t get a Lolo tag instead   :chuckle: don’t get too excited until you see the tag.

I saw 11 bulls in four days in pioneer. Three decent bulls (260-280ish) and two bulls that I would have put on my wall if given the opportunity:/
I have never seen a BIG bull in the sawtooth zone, although I’m sure they exist somewhere. Apparently lots of 5 points and small 6 points.
3DV wouldn’t you have to turn in your Sawtooth tag to hunt the Pioneer zone??

Pioneer could be a different story this year. There were a bunch of late tags added in there (and neighboring units) to force the elk out of the mountains more on their winter migration. Should be feeling the effects of those tags for the next few years.

Antlerless tags? Looks like the antlered tags have been the same since at least 2015?

I can't find old regs to compare them to but I know things got changed up for antlerless in 49 along with late hunts in 52 and 52A where a ton of the Pioneer zone elk winter.

You only have to do that if you score a "controlled" tag that you have to enter the draw for. Even then, (in theory) you could turn in the OTC A tag in exchange for the draw tag, then turn around and buy back the A tag if nobody bought it out from under you.
