Tips for the end of season?
« on: May 14, 2018, 10:50:16 AM »
Hey guys and gals,

I am planning to hit the turkey woods from the 25th - 28th. Near Okanagan. I have access to some private land that is adjacent to state land. Been going there the past couple years for an anual camping trip. Have seen turkeys around in the past. This will be my first time hunting turkeys. Are there any tips you guys could through my way? I know its getting to be pretty late in teh season.

Any help is apprecitaed!

Boot, there are lots of pages of turkey hunting stories to be read here.
Spring turkey hunting is very similar to elk rut hunting, they can be called in.
It's a good thing turkeys can't smell, but movement & noises will bust you.
From the time they hatch, something is trying to eat them, they get wise real quick.
Good luck!

Everything he said, and also this:  If it's private land, ask the folks out there about turkey patterns.  Oftentimes you'll hear "Oh they fly up in the trees over there" or "yeah they tend to feed over there".

I've had a lot of success with using that information, getting out while it's still dark and locating, then calling them in to a jake/hen pair.

Good luck!
