Potholes Open
« on: April 10, 2018, 06:51:01 PM »
Anyone on here fishing it? Anyone want to fish it with the Badhabit? My partner of 6 yrs said he wanted to fish it with someone else. Muntiny.  Anyway, I've got my entry in just need to get someone net my fish or I net their fish. I have a 20' Lund, if you have a bass boat and want to use it I'm good with that as well.

Here's my rundown for the PH Open. Got there Friday about 4 PM. Launched the boat and made sure all components were working as it was the first time out for the big boat this year. Low and behold no issues. Went and hit a couple of spots to see if there were fish holding in them. Fished for about an hour, my wife got a 15" smallie so we were happy. Sat. woke up to west wind building all day. I swear it was in the mid 20's. Anyway, we're in the second flight. Nice 3 footers rolling into the Mardon docks. We headed to the Frenchman's as there is a place or two to tie up and get out of the wind. We only caught 2 little smallies for maybe 2 to 2.5 lbs. Didn't even weigh them in. Sunday was a nice day but my wife said bag it as she was beat from Sat. We launched the boat and took a boat ride around the lake. My big old Lund still gets up and gets with it. It does a solid 51 Mph GPS not a daisy wheel. Daisy wheel says I'm going 60, with a full tank of gas, 2 people, fishing gear a dog. Livewell full.

Is Potholes worth if for bank anglers? I only seem to ever see people fishing from boats.

They catch some pretty nice bass of the Mardon Docks. Fishing the rip-rap along the face of the dam is pretty productive as well. On the Lind Coulee side where the outlet is there's a rock shelf that I've caught 4-5 lb walleye off of and the current is a natural ambush point for bass. I see people fishing from the bank in Lind Coulee and in the gravel pit. And lastly there's the Frenchman's at the state park. I was watching them catch a bunch of catfish on worms from the bank there. Hope that helps. Mardon sells a pass to fish from the dock.

the fishing can be pretty good from the bank, i can't remember how to get there myself but there are roads on the northeast side of the reservoir that will get you to spots on medicare beach and lind coulee. there are also the spillways out of moses lake up in the sand dunes.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

Back in the 1960's Mom and Dad would haul all us Kids down to the Big Old Cement Building on O'Sullivan Dam at the Outlet's Spillway. We were able to fish from the bank, tossing our bobbers right into the slack water out in front. Slab sized Crappie and Perch, back when there was no limit.  (No wonder they call them "The Good Old Days".)

Caught some really nice trout down and on the other side from that cement "cove".  double extended landing net was a must.
