Montana v. Colorado for Elk
« on: May 16, 2018, 04:21:24 PM »
Getting tired of the limited hunt opportunities here in WA.  My buddies and I are in the early stages of planning for an out of state elk archery hunt next year.  We have narrowed it down to Montana or Colorado, but we have never hunted out of state before.  Anybody have any opinions on either state?  Or another state we should be looking at?  Distance from WA is not a consideration, we don't care!  Looking to hunt bulls on public land, DIY.  Thanks!

Both have their pros and cons. Colorado has the highest population of elk but you may also be limited to some more draw areas. Montana is similar but you really can't go wrong with either. We will be in Montana this year for archery elk and late deer

Montana wants proof of an Archery class or past Archery license so get that squared away so your ready for next year.

Both good places but Wyoming has the highest success rates.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.
