Brooks Range Dall Sheep
« on: June 02, 2018, 10:29:38 PM »
I am fortunate to have a job that takes me to the North Slope of Alaska for weeks at a time during the summer/fall months.  Here are some photos taken during an evening hike just North of Atigun Pass I thought you all might enjoy.  I couldn't tell which, if any, were rams.  Didn't have any optics and was only armed with an iPhone.  Certainly no mature rams, but pretty cool nonetheless.

This country makes you feel small.

Cool pics of amazing country.

the sheer size of that country does feel overwhelming - at least to me.

2002-2006 I was able to afford 5 fly in trips to the Brooks.   The light and open spaces always took a little getting used too.  When the finances are right I hope to go back.

This guy showed up just after midnight at Lake Peters.

Alaska is so big its hard to really understand until you have been there, it does make a guy feel very insignificant for sure.

What are the bridges crossing the river?

The bridge on the top is the Haul road, across what I believe is Atigun River 2.  The one on the bottom is the Trans Alaska Pipeline.

I am far from a religious man but its hard to comprehend something of that scale and beauty could just be created by chance.  Makes a guy think.

Makes me wonder how long it will be until man screws it up like the lower 48?
