That’s in my top 3 favorite bears I’ve seen in Washington.  I wouldn’t bat an eye saying that was at or near guesstimated weight.  Was there ever a skull size on that guy?

Official score is right at 20”.  Tooth aging was 15 years old.  Going to pick up the skill and mount in a month or two.

That is an absolute stud bear. Last year I had a spring bear tag and the last day we hunted I saw a super stud right before dark. Wish I could have stayed one more day I’m sure I could have got him. Now he haunts my dreams from time to time. The picture of canines bear reminds me of him

Yes Wyoming.  I saw a bear deep in the wenaha three years ago this June that was in this same class. I didn’t have my phone scope so only have images in my mind of that Bear.  I’m backpacking back into my camp in two weeks and if I see him I will post up some pics.  I’m overdue for a wenaha spring tag so have to rely on some mock hunts.

I have posted this before but will say it again. Carry a cloth measuring tape and measure the girth and length of the bear. Also weigh  4 legs bone in but minus the paws. I believe that based on a bear weight chart if you multiply the weight of the legs times 3.3 that will be pretty close to the live weight. In any case it is easy to weigh the legs and at least that figure can be reported for those interested in such things. I have killed 11 bears and have been with friends for quite a few more. Some certainly bigger than others. My biggest was a 13 year old boar from the Wenaha 20" skull, hide squared 6' 10" and legs weighed 120#. The hide with skull weighed 80#.

The bear in my Avatar pic is a younger, smaller boar. I shot it with my Ruger Bisley 45 Colt in the Dayton unit May of 2007. The skull was not quite 18" IIRC. It was 7 years old.

Rufous, I remember that formula from similar discussions last year.

Do you happen to have some pictures of that 20” stud? Almost a 7’...it’s what I’m holding out for on my next tag.
