DESERT UNIT - L.T. MURRAY UNIT
« on: May 17, 2018, 11:31:49 AM »
For the first time in many years, I got talked into applying for permit hunts.

Anybody know where I can get a detailed map of the Desert unit?
I know the L.T. Murray pretty well — hunted up there on the game range quite a bit — but that Desert hunt (in the unlikely chance I get drawn) looks like a fair amount of federal land. That right?

mytopo.com I love the optimistic outlook if you have no points. You'll probably draw funnily enough in this state.

Y'know, saying "you have no points" is like telling someone he has no class.  ;)

That's an interesting unit. Just took a look at the map. Thx for the refer.
Looks to be about half public land of one type or another.  I presume someone would have to hunt out there with a lead-free bullet.  :dunno:  (Nosler E-Tip! )

Get a ahold of the wdfw office in ephrata.  They have maps.  And yes they will send you a packet.  But last year i got mine just a few days before the season.  So for scouting months earlier it was worthless.

This is the best WDFW map to use:
https://geodataservices.wdfw.wa.gov/huntregs/

For the most part, if it's not a circle crop on an aerial map, it is public land.  The unit is 38% public with 3 game reserves that drop that a little bit more.

https://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/regulations/2015_game_reserves.pdf

That info isn't easily obtained - Frenchman Hills, North Potholes, and Winchester Wasteway Game Reserves.   I don't believe you can even walk into them, but not sure on that.  Definitely can't hunt.

And as always, free info is available at county websites on detailed land ownership:

Spend some time getting to know www.caltopo.com.  Super-rich and easy to use map resource.

I drew desert archery 6 years ago and found some private access and can suggest some public areas but may have changed

Feel free to pm me if draw tag

Good luck
