Backpacking tent questions

I’m going to be hunting on the go this elk season (muzzleloader) instead of setting up the wall tent. Basically camping where ever the truck is parked so I can move to new locations if I’m not finding any animals. Looking for a 1 person tent that’s most importantly waterproof. Weight isn’t a concern since i won’t be carrying it far. Let me know of any recommendations. Thanks in advance.

I just run a canopy with a platform built in and big mattress when im moving alot between areas. It's fairly snug but it works good for solo trips.

Another tent cot fan. They set up in a minute, comfortable, roomy, waterproof with the fly. A good rig for truck camping.

I wouldn't limit it to one man tents, very small and for about the same price you can get a 2-3 man tents.

Of the commercially made variety, dome tents are most reliable in weather IMO.

Get a 2 person tent. Also a 4 season construction.  We were in Wyoming last November   My KUIU Storm Star was the only one that withstood the winds. 2 person size gives you more comfort room.

Except I don't own a storm and I didn't go to wyoming last year....   But yeah that to the rest.

If you plan on moving I'd sleep in the bed of the truck also. You can leave in 1 minute without tearing a tent down and then setting it up again every day. Plus if it rains, then you don't have to mess with trying to keep a wet tent dry on the inside when you move it a bunch.

I’d go with a roof top tent. Takes couple minute to set up/break down. Plenty of room and comes with an annex room. Great for changing and sitting out the weather. You can also run a buddy heater in the annex room to warm up. Plus the memory foam mattress beats any air mattress hands down. Down side is. They ain’t cheap. Wife was optimistic bout them. Tell I showed her how convenient and easy they are.

I’d also recommend a 2 man. They always have actual capacity of one less person than they say

Sleeping under a canopy is nice, easy to move and pack up.

Having a pop up shelter for cooking, sitting etc.

I might as well always figure a 1 man tent is too small for 1 man and a 2 man tent is really a 1 man.
Having said that, if I was wanting to do what you want to do, I’d put a canopy on my truck. Build a little elevated platform and put a mattress on top and have storage underneath.  Get an easy up to cook or whatever underneath.
