Buying guns online ?
« on: June 01, 2018, 04:40:38 PM »
Looking for advice on purchasing firearms online.  Assuming you have to ask a local gun store if they will receive a firearm and transfer?   Anyone have any experience with guns Midwest?  Seem to have some pretty good deals.  Thanks in advance

I've done it, pretty easy and painless.  Lately, my local gun shop has had at least as good of prices once you add the fee for transfer and shipping.

Was wondering if they’d be irritated if you bought a gun online cheaper then they had it for

Look on gunbroker, there is a list of FFL's, you can probably find a home based business near you that's more affordable than the gun shop. Just call a few till you connect with one you like. I think i paid $20 last time.

Buds guns on line has very competitive pricing and has a list of FFLs in all areas you can ship to. I’ve had great luck with Buds.

Some FFL's/dealers have no problem with you buying online and using them for the delivery/transfer but they all charge for this service and some charge more than others so check around but it's usually $25-ish for handguns and sometimes a little less for long guns.  Also, and you may or may not know this, but you'll still have to pay sales tax, even if you purchase it online from an out of state dealer.

I always give my local guy first chance to match or get close on price and he's usually pretty close or even sometimes better on price.  Just make sure you know the actually shipping cost and FFL transfer fee because that online price may not be such a savings, once you add those other costs.

My local guy who does my FFL transfers asked me to give him a chance to match or beat next time.  Fair enough.  What I find advertised online is nearly always better than local, I don't feel the need to dicker locally to give them my business, but I'm willing to give one chance.

It used to be that you could save quite a bit by buying online but to me it's easier to just buy locally, since either way you pay tax, and ordering online you have the additional cost of shipping and the transfer fee. (as others have already stated)

I've paid sales tax on a gun I've bought online from Davidsons and I think that's the only one. All of their fees etc are in the price you pay for the gun, you just pay the FFL dealer you use, exactly what is leftover from your down payment. The The dealer that receives the gun doesn't care if you bought it from him/her or not.

Sometimes it's cheaper to buy local, so know your prices because they vary.

I like buying online, local dealers selection is way less, waiting times are longer than ordering yourself, prices are high and I really like having a small FFL to sit down BS with and handle the transfer.

I usually prefer to buy from someone local unless the differential is significant. I like supporting local businesses, and would rather deal with someone I can look in the eye if I have a problem.

Me too. But I do offer the local shop the chance to match it.

I rarely buy in brick and mortar stores any more.  Process is very simple if purchased from Bud's, Davidson's, Brownell's, etc. that have a "select" dealer network.  Just go through one of those dealers and you won't even have to have the shop send their FFL nor do you need to give them a heads up it's coming.  Buy it online like anything else and the shop of your choice will call you when it gets in to come do the transfer.
