Idaho Controlled Hunt 1st and 2nd Choice
« on: June 05, 2018, 09:41:00 AM »
Do Idahos controlled hunt choices work the same as Washington where your name goes in the hat and you get assigned a number and when your number is pulled they look at if your first choice is available and if it isn't then they look at your second choice? I know everyone has 1 point every year but I'm just wondering how the hunt choice selection works.

Great question. The answer is no. It’s first choice only. The only time a second choice will matter, is if it’s an area with leftover tags, meaning they were not all taken as everyone else first choice.

For example. Say there is 50 tags for a hunt. If 51 people select if first choice, and 200 people select it as a 2nd choice, only the first choice guys will get it.

If there was 50 tags in an area, and 25 select it as first choice, the remaining 25 tags will be issued to the 2nd choice people who are still in the pool.

Also remember Idaho only gives 10% of tags to non residents, and it’s my understanding that they are divided into 2 separate pools for the main drawing.

I don’t think that there are 2 separate pools for resident and nonresident. Just that no more than 10% can go to no resident. They draw all together but once the 10% is met then no other nonresidents can draw that tag.

I believe @BULLBLASTER is correct.  Wouldn't really make sense to have two separate pools when they share the same tag pool with a cap on NR.

Very fair system...unless I don't draw again, then it is rigged  :twocents:

not looking good on having results by September if the Idaho draw trends continue the way they are going this year :bash:

Maybe they won’t have results by the time the tag purchase deadline hits. Then we are all disqualified for it and we need to re apply and pay again for the second draw. Then after those draws aren’t done either all the tags will go otc first come first serve.  :twocents:

Also btw they completely canceled the oil draws.

Makes perfect sense. That changes my strategy entirely. Thanks!

Tell that to Idaho F&G then  :chuckle:

Funny thing is I don't even care.  I've already got some cool hunts to go on this fall.
