This guy is a class act. He takes this crazy chain of events and makes a teaching moment out of it. Glad nobody was injured.

After a quick internet search, there seems to be a lot of cougar attacks.

Quote from artical.
In case you have not heard about the attack, it happened just a few days ago, while I was out hunting black bear in our Vancouver

But  nobody would carry bear spray while bear hunting I guess. :dunno: :dunno:

I have heard nothing but class about him. You should be ecstatic that a man of his notoriety meet your expectations... Too many of them are self absorbed D bags.

I've spoken with Shockey several times, I could quickly tell by talking with him the first time in Salt lake that he's a good guy and he knows his stuff. One time he spent about 20 minutes talking to my son and his best friend about hound hunting, I gained quite a lot of respect for him when I saw him do that, most personalities wouldn't have wasted their time talking to a couple young hound doggers, he actually picked that out about them before they said anything and then talked to them about hound hunting. On top of being a great guy he is very well spoken and is as good of a spokesperson as hunters could possibly have! I'm glad he has good reflexes.

It seems there are a lot of jackwagons in the TV celebrity hunting business. I’ve always liked his TV shows and I’m happy to hear that he seems to be the real deal and an all around good guy.

It seems there are a lot of jackwagons in the TV celebrity hunting business. I’ve always liked his TV shows and I’m happy to hear that he seems to be the real deal and an all around good guy.

The most entertaining banquet I've been to was one of the SCI Spokane banquets, they had Shockey for their guest speaker, if you've never been to a banquet where he speaks the next time you get a chance just go. It was at that SCI banquet when there were hordes of other far more important looking people wanting to talk to him, my son and his friend asked for an autograph, Shockey looked at them and said "You guys are hound hunters aren't you?" Brian asked him how he knew, Shockey said "You are the two skinniest guys in here and you look like you can cover a lot of country!" He then took the time to talk to a couple young guys about hounds for about 20 minutes. I hadn't met his wife before, I had only talked to Jim, when I used to do a lot of sport shows you get to know a lot of the other exhibitors. His wife Louise (spelling?) sure seemed like a nice lady too, they both seem to be very nice people.

“Hunger was likely the motivation for the cougar attacking me. The bigger question is why was this mature male cat starving? That question will have to be left to the biologists to determine officially, but my “feet on the ground” opinion is pretty simple and logical. There are too many wolves and those too many wolves, as they have done in Saskatchewan and many other places, have eaten most of the deer. They run the roads, roads that we humans made, which essentially gives them “uber” wolf predation powers. The effect of too many predators is never pretty. All predators, like this poor cougar, will starve.

It’s the Law of Unintended Consequences. Sadly our human hearts are often in the right place, but reality is reality. All animal populations need to be managed. Wild or domestic.”

This sounds all too familiar!!!!

Yes it does, but (no offense to people here that have been outspoken and working, e,ail, writing, speaking to officials) he did a very good job relaying the information without finger pointing anyone out or making it seem like people that have lead us down this path are stupid.  That last nine really makes a difference, like it or not, sometimes compassion and empathy can work wonders with sway a debate or discussion and keep people open minded or even get them to become that way.

Not pointed at you Jasnt, just a general statement overall, and you provided a great post to segway from..

Hard to beat someone in the "industry" with as much to offer that Jim does.  Glad he's got his wits about him!
