Thoughts on a 7mm wsm

i am looking at a gen 2 browning a-bolt in 7mm wsm. It has a 22" barrel and a walnut stock and is In good shape. I'm a 7mm fan to begin with and have never really thought of a wsm in 7mm then this came along and caught my attention. I think the asking price is $500. Just wanted to hear your thoughts or pros and cons. Also what are your thoughts on the price?

The Browning A-Bolt is a solid rifle and the 7mm WSM is a extremly accurate, well performing cartridge. I shoot one with the 190gr Matrix VLD's.

I like the caliber but you have to hand load at a minimum and even brass is tough to find. The 7 SAUM is easier with the same performance. As for the Browning, I owned a Ti model in 7wsm and could NOT get it to shoot.

So recoil shouldn't be too harsh, although the Browning A bolt is a light rifle so I'd probably stick to lighter bullets with that combination. I have a Browning A bolt in 270 Win. that I bought new in 1997, and I’ve never had a more accurate rifle, before or since then. I’ve done nothing to it other than replace the trigger spring to reduce it to a 3 pound trigger. Not sure about the asking price. I know I paid just over $500 including tax for mine in 1997.

I don't reload at all so it would be off the shelf ammo. I was looking and only found 6-7 different factory ammo out there. Also looked at ballistics and the wsm is 50-100fps faster than the R.E.M. Mag depending on ammo. Just thought it was nice rifle and something to consider adding to the collection and also for high buck and back country hunts.

I own a browning Abolt in 338wm that I absolutely love and it shoots great.  Is there a place that I should look at to find value of a rifle that is used ? I have looked and only found one other and it's on gun broker for $699

A friend owns a custom 7WSM and it is incredibly accurate.  If I wanted a magnum chambered in 284, the 7WSM would be the one.  You mention that you don't hand load.  Factory offerings are limited so although I love this chambering I would not recommend unless you plan to start reloading.  Also, as already mentioned finding high quality brass is impossible.  A lot of shooters use 300WSM or 270WSM brass and neck up/down accordingly.

I’ve shot one since 2011 and absolutely love it.  It’s probably been the most reliable rifle I have ever owned.

I buy Winchester brass when I can find it and just sort.  I’ve always shot 168 bergers behind 66 grains of H1000.  I get 2870 FPS with single digit ES.   Very accurate.

As jjhunter said great caliber, very accurate.  Just didn't get the attention that the 300 or 270 got.  Was very hard to find ammo.  But federal premium is running 160’s now and hornady just started losing factory 162 eld-x in 7 short mag if you don't reload.  I had the exact gun you are looking at and killed my bear at 380yards last year no problem.  I sold it to a friend cause I bought a stainless Winchester in 7 short, but kinda regret it now!
