I am not going to debate genetics at all... well..just for a second or two :chuckle: but in many, many years of spending a lot of time in the Stampede country I never saw a deer that "looked" like a muley... and furthermore...rarely did I see one before I'd get to Cle Elum...???

You guys??

I consider deer in the Cascades mule deer and the deer on the west of I-5 blacktail. Thats a hell of a buck right there Josh, love the mass.

Hey Jackelope, you could never convince me that is a true blacktail.  too many mule deer characteristics.  If it is borderline, then it is a mule deer.

I want to go one step further and say...there are a lot of clean..."normal" looking bucks that would score WAY better than that buck that I would pass up 9 out of 10 times to Kill that buck... That is the CHIT I like! :P

there's more pictures of him and he is all mule deer if you ask me. i never saw him in person, but his former place of residence certainly could throw up a bit of a flag.  :dunno:
Fanatic on here killed that buck a few years ago.

theres a whole lot of turf in between I-5 and the cascades though...are you saying the deer running around redmond you consider mule deer?

The arguement on where to draw the line between mule deer and true blacktail can be argued for years.  To say everything east of I-5 is mulie sure puts blacktail into a small group.  Every deer I have killed has been and the east side of I-5.  Although all of then were within 5 miles of it, it was still east.  So I think in this arguement, each deer should be considered by themselves, not just by general area unless you are talking extreme east and extreme west.  to hell with what boone and crockett says, i would just consider them nice deer

No arguement from me guys, those lower land deer between I-5 and the Cascades are definatley blackies, I think most of you understood my point though. To me those deer up in those mountains are closer to mule deer than blacktail and to have those lowland/coast deer in the same category is not right. I'm with you furbearer, they are all nice deer regardless.
