I believe I talked to him up there on Friday, if he's driving a dodge diesel. He said he had been seeing some deer. Some smaller 4 points and a few bucks acting rutty. But hadn't pulled the trigger yet.

Anyone know if the big deadfall has been cleared away from Mud Creek?

Thanks,

That's the reason to carry your own saw. Or  get trapped and have to wait for help. Same problem towards Jr Point.

As what we do is more about the hunt than the kill i will take you through my hunt i dont have time to type it all right now but here is a start
Day 1 i didnt get out the 31st like i wanted to so i left early the first. The plan was to dump the camper and head hunting when i got there. I didnt even have the camper off the truck and i had already had a smaller 16-17 inch 3x3 and about the same frame 3x4 in the glass. when i pulled into my camp i had seen 11 deer already and 3 bucks. To say i was excited was an understatement. I decided to set camp up as its only day one and i didnt want to come back and have to deal with it. Finally camp was set up rifle in the truck next to the spotter and i was off. I made it maybe 1000 feet from camp and spotted some deer. 8 more deer on the hill all does. I figured i would head to an area i was told about i didnt scout yet and see what it was all about. I didnt see much going in but i also didnt spend much time glassing just learning the roads. Finally got to the top and decided to get the spotter out and glass a big basin. Glassed up a couple does when all the sudden there is a grey looking deer. Thats a buck i thought. As he picked his head up i could see he was a good buck. I watched him bed down i could see he was about 24 - 25 inch wide 4x4 with eye guards. He had very small forks and was spindly so i decided i was going to let him be and move on. finished my day and seen a few more deer nothing to excited about. when i got to camp i was wondering if i made the right decision as i had never passed a good buck in my life. The decision was made and the fact that he was in a hole not visible from any road and he was in the presence of does i figured if needed i could find him back if i needed to.

Day 2 woke up freezing i guess the battery went bad in the camper and the heater wouldnt start. Decided to head up to some flats and do some hiking through some finger draws i scouted in august. Seen some deer on the way in but again small bucks and nothing to get excited about. I got to the spot parked the truck and headed in hunting as i do blacktails. Moving 20 or 30 yards and glassing. about a half a mile in i spotted a deer another doe. as i was glassing around i just got a glimps of a decent buck crossing one of the fingers but i didnt get a good look at him. i waited for the doe to follow and made a move to the top of that ridge so i could get a better look. Glassing around found the doe then another doe, then a 1 x 2 then a 2 pt but no sign of the larger buck. finally he showed again just a glimps as he crossed the next finger and still not a good look. now i had to wait about 5 minutes for all the deer to follow. Hoping he didnt go far i hurried to where he crossed now glassing the next finger ridge trying to find him. No deer at all? I lowered the binos and seen the 2 pt about 60 yards in front of me feeding. as i looked around they were all withing 70 yards milling around feeding with no clue i was there. I still couldnt find the bigger buck when all the sudden 50 yards in front of me he walked out. i could see 4 solid points and decent mass! Safety came off.. he turned and looked at me and i could see he wasnt very wide maybe 18" and no eye guards. I decided to wait them out and let them all feed over the next finger before i backed out. A buddy showed up at camp that afternoon so we decided to go up high and spend more time behind the glass glassed out more deer but again uneventful in the evening.

At the end of day 2 i was joined in camp by a good buddy and my cousin. We decided to head to a completely new area and spend the day behind the optics. Glassed a couple spots and didnt really find much. After hiking down a finger into a deep draw we spotter deer right away. A couple does in the bottom. After about 30 minutes of picking everything apart we found more deer. They were a ways off in a slot that isnt really accessible. Doable for the right buck though. When we got the spotters on the deer we saw 2 average bucks that were locking up and pushing each other around pretty good. As we were watching these guys do their thing we spotted another buck he was a pretty good 4 but decided he wasnt big enough to go after so we backed out to another draw. Same thing as we walked out a small finger to get a good glassing spot we seen deer. This draw was full of deer. We spent an hour glassing this draw and seen over 25 deer all in different groups. As we were glassing through i here theres a good buck. he walked out of the thick bottom and stood in the open looking around. He was a nice 3x4 but again not the buck i wanted to shoot so we left there and went back up high. Spent the rest of the day glassing over tons of country but again didnt glass up much to talk about.
