November in the Desert

Went into the drawing with 14 points and was fortunate enough to be one of the lucky five to get selected for the late desert tag with a rifle. I have spent time in the area, but never in pursuit of a big buck. So now the investigative recon missions will begin. With that being said, I am acceptive to any and all information anyone is willing to give on the unit, especially those who have been tag holders or have been part of this hunt. Thanks in advance, and good luck to all in the field this year!

My son drew an archery tag with 5 points, we'll be out there after you riffle guys are done.

I'm normally in the area duck hunting, so this will be a change.... lol

I also got lucky and drew the late rifle tag with 11 pts.  I agree the recon begins.  Good luck bud, hope you get a booner!

It is surprising seeing how many points guys had, just goes to show you it takes some luck.  Should be an amazing hunt, I’m jealous.

Bring your boat I've seen lots of wallhangers in the dunes. Bass fishing they lay right under a tree in the shade and just watch you. They usually don't go in too far just swim far enough away to get away from coyotes and hole up on an island. They're in the Lind Coulee as well. I swear they can hide anywhere there's a shrub. Early season duck hunting we go up the Coulee in the dark and there are deer all around. Never see them coming back down after the hunt. I don't know how the deer hunters did last season (2017) but for 2016 I understand that there were tribal hunters in the unit early and harvested 28 deer. I couldn't say if they were all bucks or not but the Warden could probably verify what they harvested. Taking a boat down the Winchester from Dodson can get you into areas that get you away from the roads if you hike northeast. I wouldn't bother running the Frenchmans, too close to roads.
