Goose Prairie archery tag. Got drawn.
« on: June 23, 2018, 03:12:24 PM »
I finally got drawn for a archery tag. 7 points.  And I have some good ideas for scouting/hunting this next season.  But one thing I can’t foresee is the amount of hunters.  I know there isn’t a lot of tags given out,  but I was looking for some experience in guys hunting for spikes, or where all the packers head in from.  There is a lot of country to hunt. It wouldn’t be to hArd to get away. But I am not excited about hiking down a trail head for miles just to find strings of wall tents come
Hunting season.

Yea man that should be ur biggest fear. U shouldn't  have to go that far in for a 240-270" but yea the big bulls with lots of education will be up where the wall teants r. U should have a fun hunt regardless congratulations!

I know where some of the packers like to go.  But they can pass some good spots on the way that are to difficult to set camps up.

Congrats on the draw. Definitely a fun tag. Had the tag 3 years ago and FINALLY drew it again this year.  :chuckle: maybe I'll see you up there.

Giant bench beast! What’s the gross on that toad? Is this a quality or bull hunt?

It will be a ghost town the first week if you get in a few miles.  Plenty of country to isolate yourself.

I drew the same tag.  I've hunted Nile a lot and am pretty excited about being able to take a shot at a bull finally.  Gonna have to take some time to explore Bumping a little more and get down in the wilderness area.  Lots to do before September.

Ya I could see it being empty then.  Unless I had a nice bull on a string I would be in the woods the last week firing some bugles off.

I couldn’t get pictures to load.  But hunted hard for 7 days and made it happen at the last minute on the last day.  Bulls were bugling but not wanting to play.  Played with the bull I shot for a few days until he had enough.

Feel free to send me some pics, I can load them for you. Or just try taking a screenshot of the pica in your phone and load those. The file size of screenshots is just right. PM me for a phone number if you want me to load them

He ran 20 yards and died.  Frontal shot between front shoulder and chest at 8 yards.  512 grain arrow put the hurt.  Never had one die that fast.  It took about 10 seconds before he fell over.

It was the most challenging hunt I have ever done.  Forgot my gators so boots were wet for 3 days.  Got into elk but they didn’t want to play.  Halfway drawn back and a bull runs.  Tried all the tricks and finally got this guy to respond.  I thought he was further away and tried to cross a small opening about 30 yards.  When I step out he turns his head in the trees and I thought it was over.  Followed him quickly about 30 yards down the trail he took off on.  Bugles load then hurried another 30 yards up and he turned around and started the slow troll back towards me.  Had no idea I was there and magaed to come to full draw and drill him about 8 yards away.

Looks like the odds will be much higher in 2019. The number of permits has been cut nearly in half.
