Huckleberry Late Moose

Well fellas I've checked about 26 times to make sure, but seems as though I have drawn the Huckleberry Moose Tag I never thought I would have a chance at!!  Now begins the process of research and information gathering, I have hunted around Addy for the past few years for late buck and have really fell in love with the area.  I keep trying to figure out how to go about this once in a lifetime hunt and have come up with the same thing that drives me to deer hunt, duck hunt, etc.. I want my Dad and my son and oldest daughter to be a part of it, not really concerned how big a moose is, hoping for a harvest and most of all an adventure with lots of good memories.  Any information would be greatly appreciated, willing to help trade duck/goose advice or maybe even a trip if you can help me, Grandpa, and the kids with our adventure!

Great tag to have!
If you know the unit much already that is a big help. If not there’s plenty of time to learn the area some before the hunt. For the nov season the Moose will be pretty visible and feeding in clearcuts early morning and just before dark. Best thing I can offer is cover some ground and glass a lot. That’s a good hunt to take kids on since you can spend a lot of time in the truck and glassing.

Late Moose Tag for Huckleberry is all of November, what would you suggest focusing on, late November, early November?? I am trying to figure out what days to take off for work.  Any ideas or suggestions from those of you who have had the tag or know that unit well?

Kill one as early as possible. They will start dropping horns around thanksgiving. Also snow can get deep and limit your access. Snow can help and hurt your hunt. Good luck.

November weather is a crap shoot in Huckleberry.  It could be 50 degrees half the time and it could be 22 and snowing every night.  Still good moose numbers West of 395 and I doubt you'll have trouble locating a bull with fronts.

Snow really doesn't accumulate deep until December.  Usually get some melt/rain action to break up the snow on roads.

I dont want to put words in @benhuntin 's mouth but I don't think he means kill the first bull you see.  I would encourage anybody not to, expecially based on the fact that moose always seem to be in close proximity late in the year.

first Moose I saw this day. Know what you are looking for and be ready to pull the trigger. To many people think hunting long and hard will get a bigger bull. Good luck you will see plenty of Moose.

By early November the bulls should start to be grouping up together again.  Spend lots of time looking at pictures of moose and figuring out what you want, when you see that bull I'd dump him, I think a lot of guys are so used to the deer/elk mentality in this state that they dump the first legal bull they see.  These are still really good hunts, figure out what you want and be patient till you find him, odds are you can find a smaller, legal bull later in the season, however they can start dropping in late November so I'd spend most of your time hunting early November but have a back up plan in case things don't go like planned.  Enjoy the hunt, moose hunting is a blast.
