Benelli Montefeltro semi auto chnage to Browning Maxus
« on: June 26, 2018, 11:03:56 AM »
Looking at getting one, very light. Looking at targets, light bird hunting. Probably wood and Blue and fancy. :chuckle: Might even get a 20 gauge.
Opinions?

I have a 12 and it has been a great gun.  It mounts up perfect for me with some shim and cast work.  I really like that gun and it does not get dirty due to the recoil spring system.

I hunted Quail with the 20 once and it was LIGHT.  It was really different from my Beretta o/u and I did not shoot it well.  Not a knock against it though.

Great gun.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I know of 3 20 gauge Monti's in my close circle.
All three have this major flaw.

The actions don't have enough tension when closed and they can super easily be an 1/8 inch from being completely closed and they won't go off.

A slight bump or even rubbing ever so slightly against some branch can open the action this slight amount.

It's called the Benelli Click. Check out the link.

AGAIN...................................ALL THREE OF THE ONES I KNOW ABOUT HAVE THIS FLAW.

It sucks.
Mine sits in the safe.

Not sure where you are located but I would be happy to show you if a non believer.
Benelli said they have never heard of the issue lol.

This model sucks but does so with style.

My M2 20 guage does this as well if I'm not careful about cleaning it. I've learned to double check it when I drop the action. It doesn't do this to me when cycling rounds, just when I load it initially.
I hunt, therefore I am.... I fish, therefore I lie.

The Benelux click has been known about by shooters for a long time.  Funny that they do not acknowledge it.

My 12 has done it once while shooting clays.  Otherwise it has been dependable.  That’s too bad that so many 20’s have that problem

Ive got an older 20 gauge and love it.  Never had the click issue myself but i let the action slam shut, just can't ease it like my old a5.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

Take a peak at a Browning Maxus.  I am not a huge semi auto shotgun fan, but I held a sporting model a couple of weeks ago it was a nice handling gun.  Not sure on their reliability

I assume you are talking about the K/O option. On a 20ga. it's silly.

I have several shotguns in my safe but my Maxus is my favorite hunting gun.  You can't go wrong owning one.

I don't think Maxus is made in a 20 gauge.

A Browning Silver or Gold Hunter would be (is!) my choice.
Fit is more important than what somebody on a forum thinks, unless it won't run, which you were lucky to discover here.
I trust gas operating systems way more than inertia.

Gold Hunter is 10 gauge only now, Silver looks good, and is available in 20, Maxus is rated better then both. BUT has its own problems. Beretta A400 has its own problems as does the Remington Versa Max.
Benelli SBE lll is rated very well and says the "click" is cured. I have no use for 3.5 inch shells in a 12. I liked the looks of the SBE lll in Walnut and Blue but can't seem to find a store that stocks them.
Frustrating.   any help??

I don't have a maxus but I do have a Gold hunter, it's a great shotgun, I think you can't go wrong with a Browning.

I have a Monte in 12. It is my go to gun. Shoot it for everything. Sporting clays, skeet, upland, duck and goose. Love this gun. Have many other shotguns to choose from but always go back to the Monte.

As far as the “click” goes, yes it will do it, if you over oil it.

Key is to clean it, oil it, then wipe all oil away with a dry cloth. I have never had it malfunction, even in extreme cold, if I just follow this simple rule.

I've been bird hunting with a 12ga Benelli Ultra Light for the last ten years or so..  Have never experienced the so-called "Benelli click".  It's clean, reliable, and light.  I clean it once a year...maybe.  Wonderful shotgun :twocents:

I’ve ran right at 4,000 rounds through by Benelli Legacy 12. Never had a misfire, click or anything else described within this thread.
If you aint hunting, you aint livin'
