We have mostly high gradient streams here in western Washington.  East side is more lucky with stream trout.  Your best bet for fly fishing the west side is lakes or out on the salt for searuns and resident silvers.

Need more info.

Where are you located?  What type of gear(ie rods, weight, float tube, waders, ect) or preferred target species(ie trout, salmon, steelhead, bass)   Lots of opportunity just about anywhere....

I got a redington 9'6 pole with a lost creek 2.0 real and waders.  Looking to catch cutthroat, rainbows.   I live around eatonville wa.  Was thinking of making a trip over east in the next couple weekends.

If your truly a beginner, this book is a great start. Major fishing rivers with public access points.  Just scratches the surface.

I second youtube for casting practice/techniques.  Lot's to research if new to the game.  Get to know your entomology.  It can and will be addicting.  I'd start close to you on any open river or creek to boost your confidence in the sport.  Fish tail outs below riffles/rapids, the seam of water between two different water currents.  Behind boulders, logs, or anything you think a fish might hide behind.  Fish a #12 tan elk hair caddis in the evening, have fun.

If you're heading east check out Rocky Ford Creek also make a stop at Red's fly shop.

Red's is good fly shop with a lot of experience, but I'd stay clear from Rocky Ford for a beginner.  Huge fish that you can see, but in my experience fish per hour is not one to gain confidence in the sport.  It's more like one or two fish every other outing(for experienced anglers).  Long drive for him to get skunked.  Very frustrating fishery.   The Yak is hit and miss, better off on the Naches if your determined to head east.  Also don't discount lake fishing on east side.  Both from shore or float tube, there are some hogs to be caught, but a little late in the season.  March to early May and October are better months for that.   :twocents:

There is tons of info out there. If you are in Eatonville check some of the local community colleges. They offer adult learning classes for fly fishing, at least Green River does. If you have a friendly outgoing personality hit the rivers and just strike up conversations. If you know how to handle a drift boat, offer to row for a guy. I used to stay at Red's before it became a uptown resort and met a lot of people doing that kind of stuff. Also consider joining groups like BHA, they would be a great resource as well.

If you are just looking to fish, get a float tube and use local lakes. If you are looking to run rivers that's a little challenging going solo.
