Staircase trailhead
« on: June 26, 2018, 02:11:53 PM »
I’ve been looking through post over the past few weeks from here that talk a little about the area around cushman. Haven’t seen a whole lot of info about the high Hunt around cushman. Everything kinda says the same thing. Steep and rugged. I am in the beginning stages of planning my high hunt for the 2019 season. I know I’m planning early but I won’t be able to go on the hunt this year due to scheduling but I figured I can start scouting this summer and make a solid plan since I have over a year.  Any info about the area is greatly appreciated. Don’t need to hear your hunting spots because that’s what google maps and miles on the boots will tell me. Thanks in advance for any info regarding the area.

Not personally familiar with the area in detail but had a friend who hiked up 2 weeks ago and seen 30 plus deer along the trail alone.  Not sure which trail exactly other than "Staircase" and was informed by said person that the trail they were on marks the boundary of the park so it would be legal on one side of trail if that were true.  Same friend hiked it again last week making their own trail and seen no deer however.  I would attribute that to cussing the devils club and making noise in all of the other brush?

Mt. Rose keeps you just outside the park border. Steep area, lots of hikers, there is also the whole Mt. Elinoir/Mt. Washington area to hunt. Check the maps to see where national forest is in relation to national park.
