Old dog, New tricks???
« on: March 15, 2009, 01:47:21 AM »
I have a one and half year old german wire hair...she is a great dog...she sits/stays/heels, house broken, baby broken, cat broken, etc...

I cant get her to retrieve outside the house!  She is interested, and will chase what I throw, go sniff it, and leave it...Inside the house she will bring it back every time, even if I make her stay, go hide it and then have her go fetch it.

My question is...Will a school help?  I dont want to spend $1,000 to have a trainer tell me "I tried", " she is just a "pet"".  I really love this dog and want to hunt with her, but so far, she is a really good pet and has no ambition to hunt.  I got her about 4 months ago and have worked and worked with her, but she has no interest outside of the living room.

I would talk to a trainer and a good one will evaluate your dog without charging you or the fee will be minimal. Most will use a live pigeon or something to see if the dog shows intrest and has the natural instinc to hunt/retrieve. Good luck, I know there are some guys on here that know of some good pointer trainers.
Shut up and Hunt!
