Thanks Duckhunter. This tag looks better all the time. Guys on here have been real helpful. They are willing to give up all kinds of info...it’s not like elk and deer spots. No one is likely to draw the tag next year anyway.

As of now I have spent three days in the unit. I have only seen one bull moose, but I am mainly running the main roads learning the unit. I have barely scratched the surface after putting 450 miles on dirt roads. Lots of timber since the Forest Service doesn’t log anymore. I’m sure things will pick up in September when the rut kicks in and by late November it should be real good when leaves are off and the snow flies.

There is a lot of willow in the burned areas so frequent them and do a lot of driving and looking.  Covering ground during prime time in that unit is the name of the game.  Do some calling during the middle of the day when the moose are not active, and you never know where you might find them.  Good luck!

Just got back from our vacation. Took two drives checking out moose spots. Very Smokey from all the fires. One area we wanted to get into was closed for fire danger. Hope to get back over soon.

I’ll keep you all posted!

I drove over Sunday and stayed for two days with Goldminer AKA John G. It turned out that friends of mine helped him on a sheep hunt five years ago so he wanted to re-pay the favor. John and his family are great. We spent two days driving and hiking in some of his favorite moose spots. It was busy in the woods with the holiday weekend, but we did manage to see a cow and his friend told us about a good bull close to one of John’s favorite spots. I’ll be heading over to set up Camp on September 28th for the October 1 opener. I’ll try and post updates during the hunt.

Thanks again to all who gave me advice on the unit.

Good luck man.  Find the willows with the tops chewed off
