« on: March 15, 2009, 04:34:54 AM »
why is it so damn hard to find somebody to fish with that likes to fish as much as i do. like before sunrise until after dark. everytime i fish with somebody they tell me oh ya i can hang for hours non stop. but then half way throu the day they are complaining that they are tired, hungry, sore, wet, cold. holy hell if you can't run with the big dog's keep your whining ass on the porch. :mor: :mor:  :pee: :liar:

Just a thought and not meant to piss you off but maybe they enjoy fishing but not to the extent you do and the only reason they go is because you bug them ( ask them ) to go enough they finally break down and go with you then you get pissed cause they're not into it.  :dunno: Just a thought maybe I'm way off, if I am then disregard.

Alot of people don't realize what it's like to sit on a boat for 8 hours fishing in the cold and rain, not sure what type of fishing we're talking here but I usually drive a separate rig for those same reasons that way I can stay or go and so can they.

sturgeon seeker, maybe you need two friends to take. One from dawn till noon, the other till dark?  :chuckle:

I still have never found anyone who likes to do everything I hunt and fish for...the way I like to do it...... If I found them, we would probably kill each other!  :dunno:

I'm in the same boat as you S-S (figuratively).  I have the same problem whether it is hunting or fishing buddies.  I get tired of taking friends out in the woods only to hear "man, I didn't realize how far in we were going".  And that is usually at the half way point.  I can understand some folks who can get antsy when sitting in a boat if freezing weather and the action is slow.  I always make it a point to drill it into their heads that this isn't going to be let's head back if we get bored trip.  I don't have the time to spend in the woods or water that I used to so when I go I hit it hard from before daylight until well after dark.

lmfao i know the feeling. none of my buddies can last from sun up to even 1 in the afternoon let alot all day. 90% of them are ready to go by lunch time, or they are passed out on the river bank.

or you get the guys who are down for the big trip, and they sleep the entire way there and the entire way back. that in my opinion is very rude.

It all depends on what I'm fishing for on how hard I'm going to hit it. If I'm meat fishing its all day, and hard fishing, if its for fun then I have fun.

I've grown up on a boat and HAD to fish from day light to dark. The fun stops real fast. Now when I fish the coast, I fish until we get enough fish to be happy with, and had a good time catching. If its all day that we want to stay out cool, if its a couple of hours cool.

This is the main reason most of my all day hunting and fishing trips are solo. If I am going out for a short time, just for a couple hours I take the wife, if not, I'm off by myself for the most part, I just got tired of everyone's different opinions on what to hunt, how to hunt, how to get there, blah, blah, blah, chrissakes, it wore me out. If I only have expectations of myself, there's a lot less chance being dissappointed in someone else :twocents:

I kinda suspect you are preaching to the choir here.  The reason we are hanging out on boards like this is because we are (sort of...) like minded.  When I go steelheading or fishing in general wherever it may be, I intend to be out all day as long as possible.  The people you are referring to don't see fishing and hunting and outdoors obsessions quite like you and I.  I think you just need to keep at it solo if need be until you build a cadre of like minded outdoorsmen.

It should make you appreciate your buds that do go after it hardcore as well.  I know I do.

Besides, if you had someone "just like you" you would be fighting over bait or which side of the boat to fish from or who drives. LOL.

And if it was me, with someone just like me...I would probably think he was an a$$hole, way to intense.  :P

I've made it VERY clear to my wife of ten years when we were dating that there was no set time when I would return. She accepts that and only once has asked me not to go out fishing. My brothers and other guys that I've gone with always have a set time of how long they are going out so I always make sure I drive myself. They can meet me and leave when they want. I do have the luxury of one brother-in-law that has the same feelings as me and I'll partner with him anytime. I have also met a guy here in Spokane that loves to yote hunt as much as me and we've been out alot together. Biggest thing is to have fun and make sure everone else is doing the same. I make sure that everyone I go with knows my plans for the day and usually you can tell if things will work out.

I volunteer to be in someones boat from daylight to dark fishing.  I love to fish as much as I love to hunt, wind, rain, cold, no matter.  Have fished when you had to shake the ice out of the guides to keep fishing.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

If we are hitting the salt for albies it is an ass crack to dark ordeal. If i am hitting it for summer steelhead we are done by noon with our limits most of the time so i don't need to fish untill after dark. If i am casting wigglers from the bank i can cast all day long for 1 fish and be happy.
I fish from the bank, so if someone wants to go i tell them up front that this is the deal, if they don't like the deal they are welcome to follow me and drive away when there time comes. I do not need others with me, except for my son he is 9 and he really dictates to me when the time to go is.

I have experienced what y'all are talking about here a lot too. I think its normal, and when possible I think two things should be agreed on... exit time... and possibly just 2 vehicles.

I have gone on long scouting trips with two different hunting buddies and found two separate issues.

One did not want to get out of the car and explore the area... he just wanted to find it relative to the hwy and call it good (in his defense we were trying to locate 4 different wdfw spots in one day, about 2hrs from home).

The other one neglected to realize that I have a pregnant wife and home and I don't want to be away from her for the whole weekend, I was only planning on take a dawn-noon fishing/scouting trip.

the upside to going by yourself is that you can do whatever you want, whenever you want, as much as you want.

the downside is you have nobody to split the gas price.  :dunno:

I love fishing as much as the extremely hard core guy, but to state "grow a set" cause someone doesn't feel like staying when the fishing isn't good or even mediocre?  Come on, you can't honestly tell me that even if the fishing sucks for that day or time period, your there Dusk till the Dawn and more, everytime and  everyone else is a wuzzy for leaving.  Maybe there are just a tad smarter for leaving early?  And arranging another trip when the conditions are better.  Been on Silver trips where heck yea, 90 plus per person, and your just ready to call it a day early and have been on the flip side on all day Kenai King sessions without success all day through the next day without regard.  I fish now with other folks, mostly cause I enjoy their company, learn alot about different techniques and methods they utilize, the conversation and it cuts the cost greatly.....  But I do it now when the odds are with me versus on flip and tip or complete end of a run....  Probably the reason my kids are NOT really into fishing anymore cause I took the approach of smoking them all day long, everytime out... Learned my lesson on this subject the hard way...  Even when the kids state heck yea Dad let's go, mostly because they are kids and don't want to disappoint....  Timing and Moderation keeps them in the game for sure....

I myself am not huge on fishing...  Sorry but I'd be one of those guys who doesn't have a set!  If we're up fishing and the weather is crappy and we go 5-6 hours without a nibble, then yeah I'm probably ready to leave.  Just my perogative... lol

Now if you want to go look for mulies, I'll be the first one up and the last one to bed guaranteed!!!  I just don't get passionate nearly as much about fishing as I do hunting...
