denting cases
« on: March 15, 2009, 10:08:23 AM »
I'm new to reloading and I have a problem. When I resize the case, some of the shoulder gets dented. This is happening with both 22-250 and .300 win mag. I have taken apart both dies and cleaned them although I didn't see anything wrong with them and I still have the problem. Re seting does not help. This does not happen on every shell but does 50% of the time. I can get one perfect and then 2 dented and then back to perfect. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

sounds like you are putting to much lube on the cases. I dont know if you are but dont put any lube on the shoulders. :twocents:

Back off on the die a bit? (unscrew it a little)

If you didn't move the die all the way down every single time it would make sense.

A picture might help.

The speer book says to roll every case in lube. I have been. If I'm not supposed to be lubeing the shoulder then what am I supposed to be lubing?

I use a spray on case lube and early on I had the same problem.  It was too much lube.  I backed off a bit and now no dents.  Good Luck!

Your just using to much lube which will dent the case shoulders. Switch to Hornady One shot. It's easier to use and not as messy. It comes in a spray can. It's way better than that pasty nasty glue stuff.
