My plan was to purchase a CVA Optima for both deer and elk and with the past posts, I think I had a good handle on what I needed in terms of supplies. But with the recent change in refs for Wa State, this opened up some confusion.  For example, BH 209 powder looks to be the way to go now but is very hard to find.  Understanding that is boils down to personal preference and the ubderlying weapon, in terms of powder, bullets etc, where should I start when I go to the range for the first time.  Any other necessary accessories (i.e preference for carrying and loading powder)?

Well you will most likely get several OPIONS, and I will give mine.  Since the state (WA) does not allow optics but does allow the 209 ignition system that opens the option to use blackhorn powder.  Now personally without being able to use a scope I do not see the advantage to the use of that powder with open sights.  I would stick with triple 7 lose powder I use 2f.  Obviously get yourself  a powder measurer and the plastic funnel that attaches to the top of the can of powder.  Start with 90-100 grains of lose powder and work from there.  I get good accuracy with 110 grains.  Search some of Sabotloaders posts he has a ton of info on this subject, and I believe he uses 120 grains of lose powder.  get a bullet starter with a correct tip that doesn't damage the bullet you are using, I would suggest a range rod for loading while practicing and making cleaning between shots easier. Then for the filed get some speedloaders, whatever you prefer that hold your bullet and powder. something to have extra primers while in the field also. find a small possibles bag for your extra filed items, not necessarily needed at the rage. for the range either a range bag or tool bag for all your gear. For the bullets I use Hornady SST 300grn.  Many different bullets out there but these load easy and seem to work.   Hope this helps a little, I am sure more will chime in also.

Blackhorn is hella expensive but it loads, shoots, and re-loads perfectly.    I will use BH for hunting and T7 for practice.  Ballistically in my rifle not a lot of difference...but the re-loading and stability goes to the BH all day long.  I scored and got a bunch on close out....im good probably for the next 10-15 years if I use it for hunting and not target.
