Cabela’s started doing it when they stuck a store in wa. Not sure why kuiu is but I have seen the change as well.

Tax codes are weird. Some places charge it but other similar companies do not. On Amazon I order a lot for a tax exempt business, but there are some that still will not remove tax. Tax exemption in WA is a pain and causes me no end of hassle when trying to make purchases. I use a credit card that states “tax exempt” with the ID #, yet some companies still insist on trying to charge tax.

Amazon charges tax because they're based out of here. Kuiu is not and has no affiliation with Wa. Cabelas also does because they have a store in this state. SKRE gear  Doesn't charge tax

It has something to do with the volume of sales in a state.  Once you reach a certain threshold you are required to begin charging tax

I was always under the impression there had to be a store front, warehouse, distribution center, sales rep ? I didnt realize it was also based on sales ?

Looks like Washington state requires it for any business with over 10k in sales to Wa residents. My order a month ago did not have sales tax though....

Send them your resale certificate. If they have it on file you should be able to buy without sales tax, if their computer is set up for it.
