Desert youth antlerless

My son was drawn for the youth antlerless, late season 12/9-12/24  more or less. Does anyone have any advise for that time of year? We're usually in the area in the springtime, but not  in December.

I'd plan on using spot and stalk, or rather "sneak and peek" unless I had private access to unpressured deer.

If you're on the main public block, I'd plan on getting in at least a ways from the main access points. There can be deer nearer, but expect more the deeper you go in general.Then find some higher points and start looking for deer. Focus on the bitter brush patches. Be careful when approaching the dunes to "sneak and peek". Those older does' eyes are trained to the tops of the dunes and ridges and they'll spot you from a mile away. Be careful and you can have them right under your feet.  :twocents:

Lots of areas to find does that time of year. They’re usually fairly grouped up by then and aren’t movjng too much. Should be able to find a group and put the sneak on them. Great hunt to find a lower intensity and pressure hunt for the youth. Be on the lookout for coyote hunters, they usually see many deer and shouldn’t have a problem telling you where they’ve seen deer. Good luck. I got to get to work.  Spent a lot of time in there last year.  PM me and I will respond and draw an x on the map  and because it is in december i may even be able to go with you.

What are the odds for this hunt? My son is looking to take the hunter safety soon and I'd love to use this as a way to introduce him to hunts, next year.
