I don't know. Like I said I have no experience scoring, this is more just to satisfy my curiosity. The Jon my guess is you have a fair amount more experience scoring animals than I ever will. He's somewhere between 142 and 165, probably falling somewhere in the middle.

Definitely not.  I've never used anything but instinct to shoot or not shoot.  I have my first good special/controlled deer hunt this fall and I better get a little better at the numbers game.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Last year was the first time I ever passed on a buck that wasn't a spike. I usually just kill the first legal buck I see. This buck got me thinking about taking a little more time though.

166, give or take a couple of 1/8ths  :chuckle:
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

I agree he was gorgeous. I wish I had the funds to mount him. I should have saved the Cape but that was an after thought. The euro has a nice place on the wall in the office at least.

One thing that deer did was make me realize how little I look at animals before I shoot them. I had plenty of time to check this buck out before I shot, but per usual it went something like, "deer...buck...click...bang". Made me sad that I didn't take time to see him and remember him for what he looked like alive. This was the first moment I realized he was bigger than I thought he was.

I'm betting that in the future, you start looking a little longer before you administer the death ray.
