Chassis for a savage SA. XLR vs. MDT vs. ???

Gonna put one of my Savage short actions in a Chassis for my son.  He loves to shoot my Savage Stealth 6.5 creed and is killing the 450 yard target consistently at the range.  He is a smaller kid so having the adjustable stock really makes it enjoyable for him.   

Any input on a good chassis system that you have experience with would be great. 

I will post pics when it is complete.

I don’t own any chassis guns but have handled and shot a fair amount and if I was buying a chassis it would be a XLR.

I absolutely love my XLR evolution with the tactical butstock. Lop, cant, cheek riser.
This thing has more miles on it than most folks boots lol. Has taken a beating and always ready for more.  Recommend the folder so you don’t have to fight the cheek riser when cleaning

Not to threadjack but do you use the xlr magazines as well jasnt?
I see they have double stack center feed ai pattern mags

I'm not sure I want the barrel shroud for two reasons;
    1.  I want to be able to clean my barrel (outside) regularly and the shroud would have to be taken off for this to happen.
    2.  I like have my scope abjective bell as close the barrel as possible and the shroud makes you raise your scope 1/2-3/4" higher. 


The two I am looking at currently are: 
 
MDT:  LSS-XL Gen 2
XLR:   Element

I personally like the looks fo the MDT better but have heard a ton of great reviews on the XLR.  I am pretty sure savage uses the MDT on the Stealth models which is a proven performer.

The element Chasis is going on my LA build when I can afford it. I like the element a lot.
I run the ai mags myself.  Have not used the XLR mags. My ai mags are double stack center feed.
As for the hand guard I like it a lot. Takes maybe a min to remove. My sight height is 2.1”. If you use the XLR rail it’s taller than normal and I can run low rings with a 50mm objective. Got about 1/16” clearance between scope and hand guard

I ordered the MDT LSS XL Gen 2 with the folding adapter.  Now I need to decide what rifle to mount in it.  I have two choices.....243 or 7-08.  I plan on having the barrels threaded and equiped with either a brake or suppressor.  Either way, I want it to be an enjoyable rifle for my son to shoot.  He loves my savage stealth in 6.5 and is a dead eye....putting together smaller groups than I do. 

I still need to order a butt stock and put a new scope on it....thinking a nightforce shv 4-14.  At the end of this venture he is going to have an nicer rifle than me...LOLOL 

With any luck he will be tipping over critters next year with it.  Still need to get him in a class.

I've had both the XLR and MDT chassis and I prefer the MDT mostly for aesthetic reasons. The best combo is an MDT with an XLR buttstock. The XLR buttstock is adjustable for everything and you can really get it dialed in so it fits perfect.

That is great to know.....I was curious if they used the same thread pattern.  I may have to order one.

Killer Innovations makes the Orias Chassis. I don't know if they make any for a Savage. I have one for my Remington SA 308 with the Rock River Operator 6 position butt stock. Don't have anything mounted in it yet.

Also check out the MDT skeleton Rifle stock to use with the LSS-XL. It is a newer buttstock with full adjustability.

FYI, MDT is setting up in Everson WA. In a few weeks you will also be able to come by to handle the product before you buy

Nice! I love being able to actually handle a stock/chassis before buying one. I've wasted a lot of money buying stuff that I ended up not liking.

Next step will be a muzzle brake and nightforce SHV 4-14x56.  Then it is off to the range to see how it shoots.  So far I am pretty happy with it.
