OK....bought a new house. One of the things I realized through moving is I have a bunch of fishing rods I forgot I had. I'm trying to do everything as right as I can in my new garage as far as organization. Wondering if any of you guys have any great ideas for fishing rod storage?

For my situation, i bought 2 of these that sit flat agianst a wall. Downside being with them vertical, my sturgeon rods hit the ceiling or have to be stored broke down. Im sure there are some much craftier/convenient ways to store rods but this was cheap and worked.

congrats on the new house!
what I do for my storage is put sets of screw in hooks hooks up on the ceiling rafters above the stall where I park my boat.
Large hooks for the butt end of the rod, and then smaller full capture hooks somewhere else, depending on length of rod.
This works well for me because the rods are stored directly over my boat, so when im in the garage getting it ready for the next trip the rods are within arms reach to switch from halibut to salmon, or trout to salmon, or whatever.
keeping them up high also seems to keep them out of harms way a bit more from getting banged around.

These are the same ones quadrafire has. Work great for ceiling storage.

I had them on the ceiling in my old garage but the new garage ceiling is like 12' high and I'm trying to avoid overhead storage. There are 2 separate doors and garage door openers and lights and all that, so my ceiling space is also limited. I should have mentioned that I guess. I'm thinking horizontal storage on the wall. I can put a rack maybe 8' off the ground.

This would create a lot of work for you, but I have 12.5 foot ceilings in my garage also. I built a loft area above the garage doors for extra storage. It's right above the rails for the garage door openers and is 8' wide and stretches the length of the garage. It created a ton of extra storage, and usable / accessible ceiling type rod rack storage. Just a thought.

I use on hook per rod on the truss,the weight of the reel holds the rod against the other truss

You can also hang conduit from the ceiling to put the length of the rod in and leave the reel out or take reel off to take the weight off of it. sort of like guys do on their Yakima racks for fly rods.

My garage has high ceilings and I have a horizontal rod rack in the space between the ceiling and the top of the garage door. Works well as that space typically goes unused, just have to remember to get the rods down while the garage door is shut.

FiL made an array of PVC holders mounted to a wood slab that, in turn, mounts to the ceiling in the garage.

I mount these horizontally up high on the garage walls, and alternate reels end to end. I have four sets, never had an issue with them.

I bought a couple of these from a vendor in Florida on Ebay a few years back. Awesome racks that do double duty. Keeps rods in place and I separate them rods by type. One for salmon/steelhead and the second one other...kokanee etc. Grab holder and lift holder and rods into boat. The handle hooks into a receptacle on the North Rive that hold the complete unit in place while traveling and out on the water. Just grab whatever rods to use. Return home unlock and remove unit from boat and store in garage. One of the best things I ever bought. No more fumbling around in the dark trying to get poles in the boat. Easy changing of gear when needed while fishing.

What you don't see in the first picture is an integrated cord mid section that chinches the rods and holds them tightly in place. Second photo shows rods in rack and ready to go when needed. Old picture from when I was starting to organize all the boat stuff with wall racks on one side of then garage.

I've got a low ceiling in part of the garage. Used hooks and a 1x with holes drilled to fit the handle. Leave just enough room for reels. Works great. Have same setup in my enclosed trailer/camp.

Peg board a wall you'd be amazed at how many rods you can stack in a small place. Components are cheep. Plus you can hang other things such as extra spools of line and lures ect.

I was cautioned about storing the rods horizontally by a buddy. Says they'll bow over time and stay that way. Any confirmation to this?

This is mine and it is just some 1x4 pine that I cut out holes with a hole saw and mounted too the wall. Its 18' wide.

I run something very similar to this as I like to keep pressure off the blanks when stored.

This was an issue with fiberglass rods, but I think that's gone by the wayside with modern graphite rods. Maybe if you leaned them in a corner where there was a significant bend put in them for a very long period of time it could become a problem. I've been storing rods horizontally forever, and I can't say I've ever had any issues.

Never have had any problems storing on trusses. I've used other rod racks and wall mounts but they eat up space
